Note from the Flume Gorge

(Boy, it's quiet here on LJ today. *grin* One would think everyone is outside enjoying the weather, as I was all afternoon. So...)

While ascending the pedestrian walkway past the lovely cool moss-covered walls of the Flume Gorge last Sunday, I said to Tiger Boy,

"What do you use to measure the amount of moss on a rock?"
"I don't know, what?"
"A sphagnum-anometer!"

"..."

[Poll #525630]
... Also, [livejournal.com profile] ablock wants me to post something witty about the crazy July 4th house display we saw last Friday night, but I'm not any more up to the task than he is. >:-) I will add, however, that we also found a proper old-fashioned mini-golf course on Rte. 1 in Saugus, next to the Dairy Castle, both of which I hope to return and try sometime, maybe even this month.

Firstest!

Yes, it's funny, but in a loud groan rather than a loud laugh kind of way. Just to be clear. :)

Yeah, yeah, I know. :-)

Funny... but only because I obsessed on the word "sphygmomanometer" whilst studying for a spelling bee. :)

Anyone who doesn't know what a sphygmomanometer is or what sphagnum moss is, is probably not a whole lot of fun to talk to anyway.

Big roomy brains make for fun friends.

I didn't know what sphagnum moss is, and she dated me :)

Ah, but you used past tense.

Maybe the moss played a part, no?

(Sorryif my kidding offends. I've had a very bad 2 weeks and am on lots of pain medication. I'll shut up now.)

Oh yes, I've heard a little about the recent awfulness. :-/ Hang in there.

Funny, but definitely in the "arrgh...thwap the punster" way. (I say this as a common target for thwap-the-punster.)

That was in fact my first thought.

Great minds think alike. And yes, the joke is only funny if you know what both those items are--then it becomes hilarious.

You've done better, but that ain't bad.

I appreciate puns in general, but educated puns have definite style.

Also, I must call you a silly goose for posting a poll about it. You silly goose!

Eh...

See, I would have gone with "bryometer", to play with altitude measurements while hiking. Of course, the field of bryology is even more obscure to the average person.

[identity profile] greenlily.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. I get this, but only because I recognize sphagnum moss from Audubon Society summer camp and 'sphygmomanometer' because Boris' Kitchen once did a show live without one.

That is very geeky. Also quite sad.
