Neat! Although I think if I converted my handwriting into a font the publishing industry would form a mob seeking justice (and/or revenge...) ;)

Blargle. I was just thinking, 'ooh, free fonts!' when I surfed through that first link and picked a font I liked and got to the 'buy this for $32' page. Are there free fonts out there for the picking?

Ha! I should've just done a google search before posting. :)

I suspect it would make you at least as much of a basket case as it made me. >:-) However, I'd be happy to talk to you about it.

Hmmm. I should have the files, the question is *where*...! It was done on a Mac (when I was at MIT) and I'm not 100% sure where I have them archived. OTOH I should have the PDF I sent you to print from, and that may be the easiest to manipulate, just to drop the new art into the center.

The idea of my handwriting (to use the term loosely) as a font just about makes my blood run cold.

There are lots of free fonts, absolutely; it's just that the majority of them are crap in terms of professional typesetting. ;-)

Lorem Ipsum isn't randomized! Or if it is, the randomization was done well before any of us ever used it!

Sorry -- you are correct, my description was conflating the passage and the function. The cited generator *does* create randomized variations on that original text. >:-) Likewise Quark's Jabberwocky Xtension.

I agree, although some of the accents sound more "typical" than others. Neither of the "Yiddish"-accented speakers sound even vaguely Yiddish to me, not even Brooklyn-yeshivish. On the other hand, one of the Norwegian-accented speakers (female, age 33) sounds almost a dead ringer for a friend of mine (except that she has a degree of English accent as well in her speech, because her dad's English and possibly also because she spent many years studying in the U.K.).

This is true. I've held jobs that called at times for advanced font tinkering in Acrobat, and have rarely been able to find the desired fonts for free.

but hasn't someone already filled the position?

(And, to be perfectly honest, I've forgotten what exactly it entailed, and why it was so maddening.)
