By the grace of [livejournal.com profile] laurens10, today I have added a new favorite writer to my mental roster: Jay Michaelson of Zeek (and also of Burning Man). He manages to put his finger on exactly the sorts of things I want someone to notice and explain about hypercapitalism, ecology, spirituality, sexuality, mindfulness -- or lack thereof -- all the sicknesses that plague America today, and why things are not as they should be. And how they could be better and truer.

I want to spend the rest of the day devouring every column in this archive, or this one. (I'll try not to, though. Maybe later. Maybe I'll subscribe to the printed version of Zeek.) What a great, mind-expanding feeling.

Oh yeah, and to top it off, it turns out Jay was also the editor of the Yale bencher, Az Yashir Moshe. My goodness.

Looking up

Weirdly, I feel better today (emotionally) than I did all weekend. More balanced, more at peace with the whole thing. Maybe that one more angstful e-mail I wrote last night helped get it further out of my system (not that I've received any response yet, but what could I expect?). Or maybe it's been the social support. Or maybe it was reading Jay Michaelson's insights into the meaning of life today... an exercise in fresh perspective.

Wonderful dinner with my friend Mike last night. Wonderful dinner with Josh "He Exists!" Breindel tonight -- the first in eons, and all too brief. Anticipate wonderful dinner with [livejournal.com profile] nacht_musik tomorrow night.

Now I just need to get myself organized, both at home and at work. You know it's bad when the biggest, most compelling item at the top of your to-do list is to refresh your to-do list... but I'm really to that stage. Well, and I also have to lay out the shul newsletter tonight (in hopes of getting it printed before R"H). So, onward.

And also I've reg'd-and-reserved for Albacon. Yay.
