Snippet from Joelll's b'day party

(or maybe it was ablock's b'day party? Anyway:)

Someone, to me and/or Tiger Boy: Wow -- you're tall.

[exchange of significant glances]

Tiger Boy, to me: ...'It's a nice day!'

Me: 'You're very tall!'

Tiger Boy: -- You know, I can't ever hear that without thinking --

Me: 'So this is it, we're going to die!'

Tiger Boy: [grins] I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

Me: [whispering in his ear] Never again.



ETA, much later: And wouldn't you think that might have warmed his heart? Not in the slightest. Not then, not later; anytime this little vignette came up in conversation in years afterwards, he was always just like "um, whatever".

That's not in itself why I left, but it's damn well illustrative.
