As many of you know, I am currently actively rehearsing for two shows, with a third in the queue immediately after. Plus, the big school event that I am co-running is just a week away, which means it will All Be Over Soon (and I can get back to the longer- as well as shorter-term stuff that's been getting back-burnered, as one does). So on the whole, things have been pretty good around here of late.
Gondo is humming along, as it were; I have to admit I always enjoy the period of music-only rehearsals better than I enjoy the blocking rehearsals (much in the same way that I enjoy the beginnings of movies, when it's all scene-setting and exposition and nothing unhappy or complicating has happened yet). Unfortunately, we've been missing several of our principals at every rehearsal; fortunately, our Giuseppe (i.e., the one cast opposite me) has actually shown up reliably, and overall I approve of him strongly, so I'm pleased about that. I've also been listening incessantly to the recording of
mitgsp's 2002 Gondoliers (a nice break from the D'Oyly Carte recording to which I was previously listening incessantly), which is great fun -- it was really a very nice production; I'd actually forgotten how good their Giuseppe and Casilda were, for instance. And it's a pleasure to be carrying so many of you (
navrins,
seinneann_ceoil,
dragonfriek, not to mention short bursts of
mrmorse and
justom) around with me for a bit.
The one aggravating thing is that my score (already lovingly highlighted and flagged with all my entrances) somehow evaporated from my bag between 9:30pm last Monday night and 7pm last Wednesday night, when I went to pull it out for the next rehearsal. "That's funny..." :-/ Graaah. I've sent for a replacement, which will be here soon, but it's been aggravating trying to look on with others and/or work without it the past three days. Happily, there was a spare floating around at today's rehearsal. And we get a couple days' break now, so the new one has time to show up.
Also on the subject of mysterious disappearances: I keep a running draft in my gmail entitled "lj entry stubs". It's my equivalent of keeping tabs open while I ponder posting about them: notes, links, recipes, etc. Earlier this week, I went to paste something into it and discovered that it had evaporated. The whole email draft. Gone. Just gone.
Feh.
... Probably nothing in it was that earth-shattering to lose (recipe links I can always look up again, etc.), but it does upset me. Did I delete it without intending/realizing, and if so, HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN, and how do I make sure it doesn't happen AGAIN? Or was it some system vagary, in which case, SEE PREVIOUS QUESTIONS? Arrrrgh.
(While I'm at it, I mislaid a brown taffeta skirt sometime in the process of moving, that I had just bought last spring and would really like to have again, so if anything else lost can find its way back to me, could I put in a request for that too? kthx!) Edit: FOUND! It was on the floor of my closet! o_0
The Menschen are performing in Rhode Island tomorrow, for a congregation in Narragansett. There was supposed to be a second performance later in the day in Providence, but that kind of fizzled out due to a scheduling snafu, so it's actually going to be a slightly less strenuous day than originally projected. But it still does entail four hours of driving for an hour of performance. Anyway, if anyone should find themselves in the area, it's 1-2pm at the Village Inn, 1 Beach Street in Narragansett, RI.
Plus, signups are now live for AUDITIONS for ALL VOICE PARTS this spring! Auditions are being held Sunday evening, March 14 by appointment only. More info at the website, or feel free to ask me anything (I've been in the group for almost 7 years now myself).
And tonight as well as tomorrow is Purim and we're putting on ashow in the barn CLUB DANCE AT THE SHUL after megillah reading tonight:
tremontstshul, ~9:45pm to 1am. Costumes recommended; so I have to go figure out whether I'm wearing the Dress What Is Too Sexy For Shul (see icon); if not, what else, and if so, with what else, and -- oh yeah, eat some dinner, especially as the time for napping has now been used up with writing for you all.
Chag sameach!
