I thank you, [livejournal.com profile] tahnan, for reminding me
That Blank Verse Blog Week started yesterday!
-- Or, if you'd rather, Blank Verse Journal Week:
A charming scheme suggested by some folks
([livejournal.com profile] jadelennox, notably, and [livejournal.com profile] cnoocy too)
To write all week in pentiambic lines,
In honor of the birthday of the Bard
This coming Wednesday, April twenty-third.
I never could resist the siren call
Of metered verse, so I shall join the pack
And publicize this venture by example.

I would have kicked the week off properly
By working up a Sunday evening post,
But as it happened, I was rushing off
(As usual) to social obligations --
In this case, brisket dinner at [livejournal.com profile] kalessin's,
In company of [livejournal.com profile] navrins, [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen,
[livejournal.com profile] ablock, and others non-LJ-enabled.
(Not [livejournal.com profile] mattrolls, though, as he was in New Jersey
To spend the Easter weekend at his parents'.)

That afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] msmidge had come for lunch,
For which I made an eggplant caponata
To spread on matzah, plus spaghetti squash,
And she brought over chocolate cake that was,
Though Pesadik (that's kosher-for-Passover,
And hence containing matzah meal) quite tasty.
Post-lunch, we wandered over to Mahoney's,
The garden center down on Western Ave.
(A pleasant walk on such a gorgeous day),
And strolled around it, smelling all the herbs
And reading all the placards for the flowers.
I did this last spring too, and bought some mint
And basil and some ivy for my planters,
And found it wonderfully restorative
To help assuage my thwarted garden yearnings.
This trip I made no purchases, but soon --
I'll have to find another time to go.

Today I was to spend the afternoon
With [livejournal.com profile] nacht_musik, so [livejournal.com profile] navrins brought me home
'Round 1pm -- but as we hadn't eaten
(there's nothing Pesadik in [livejournal.com profile] navrins' house
that he could offer me, besides some juice),
he came inside and we made matzah brei.
This was the first time I had tried to make it,
and though I think the recipe we found
was disproportionately high in egg,
it came out tasty after all, so, yay.
Then hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] nacht_musik was good --
As usual, a comfort and a joy.

Oh yes, and Saturday, I'd met with C,
But that's a story for another time. ;-)
(The question now is, should initial "C"
Stand for itself, one syllable, as read --
Or should I entertain myself this week
By using it to represent his name
In full, revealing its trochaic scansion?
Perhaps if punctuated thus: "I went
With C_____ and a couple of his friends
To dinner, early evening Saturday --
Alas, to California Pizza Kitchen.
I had a nice Romaine and blue-cheese salad.")

... Enough for now. [livejournal.com profile] mattrolls is half-asleep
Upon my couch; it must be time for bed.
