lordy lordy...

I turned 30 on Sunday.

I'm slowly coming to terms with it.

But the day itself was actually very pleasant. I went (stag) to a couple of parties Saturday night, at one of which I had Happy Birthday sung to me, so I got to bed around 1am... so on Sunday I had the privilege of sleeping in until 9:15 or so, and then lounging around for much of the morning drinking coffee, reading the paper, opening my presents that had come earlier in the week, and taking birthday phonecalls. Until suddenly I remembered that I had three loads of laundry I needed to get through, and was having people over later so I really wanted to clean up the living room... oh yeah, and bake a birthday cake, which means I should go to the store... And from there on it proceeded to be a frantic couple of hours.

I also wanted to go to the Harvard Square Octoberfest in the afternoon, which I thought I could manage by 1:00 or so. However, with the laundry situation, since I didn't even get it going until closer to noon, it took me until after 3 to be ready to go. However, Pup and Joelll and Jonathan had all come over around 2, so they were hanging out visiting and drinking coffee while I finished the cake and ran back and forth to the stupid laundromat. It pleased me to have them all there, but I would have enjoyed it more if I could have been present for more of the hanging-out! Unfortunately, it also meant Joelll, having a work shift at 3pm, couldn't even stay long enough to go to the 'fest; but [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen joined us there instead, which might strike one as an equitable exchange. And since [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen was burning a roll of film in order to try out CVS's new (and admittedly cool) self-service film-developing kiosk, he took a whole lot of shots of us around the festival, trying on goofy hats and otherwise enjoying the gorgeous afternoon.

From there we went on to the CBC for dinner to meet up with a great many of my dearest friends... a startling proportion of whom could be name-dropped with LJ callout tags, but I won't bother. You know who you are, and I'm glad you were all there. *hugs*

After which a smaller subset of people came back to my house for birthday cake: both the one I had made and the one my mom sent -- that is, had delivered from Carberry's (yay, Carberry's!) since she wasn't able to be here in person for the big day. And when everyone else had gone home, I opened my present from Jonathan, which was a boxed set of the Griffin & Sabine trilogy. Wow! I'd never read them, but I remember when they came out and were such a huge hit, because I was working the trade section of my college bookstore at that time. Which makes it 10 years ago, when I was 20 -- which, being within my adult memory, hardly seems like long ago at all. *gulp* Anyway though, we promptly sat down and read all three books out loud together from beginning to end, with me reading Sabine and him reading Griffin. What a perfect gift.
