1. For all you information goddesses out there: A Library Musical!

2. This morning I am building myself a small FileMaker database* (to track my archive materials and submissions). And in mucking around with the tools, I have discovered that you can create a button and assign to it, as its only function, "Beep". And you can put text on the button that says, simply, "Beep!" And then when you go back to Browse mode, every one of your records has a little button on it that says "Beep!", and if you click it, it goes, "Beep!"

* While I'm on the topic: Is there any way to set text fields to default to a specific entry on a value list, when a new record is created? I.e., to start with the first radio button selected, instead of my having to manually select it in four different fields for each new record?

[EDIT:] 3. I just had to e-mail someone the fonts for a book jacket. The three font names were Ean, Kievit, and Therm. If those aren't the names of a trio of space aliens (or possibly Muppets), I don't know what is.

I am taking off work tomorrow, in honor of Arisia, so that I may stay out late tonight helping with setup (and still get laundry done tomorrow).

There are pranks and then there are pranks. Wow, that is utterly cool!

Hehehe. Still, speaking as an information god, I must say that if someone tried that in my library, I wouldn't let them continue unless they could actually sing in tune. And maybe throw in a little soft shoe.

Oh yeah, and I don't believe for a moment that was a real-life prank. In a real-life crowded academic library like that, at least one or two people would start yelling "Shut the f**k up, I'm studying here," then call the campus police. (As an undergrad at U of Toronto, I once witnessed such an incident, involving a schizophrenic woman singing very shrilly in French, in the middle of a common area where people were studying. Yes, people yelled [one tried politely to get her to stop], and yes, the campus police were called. She'd already left by the time they came, though.)

When musicals break out in my public library, the librarians do that shushing thing they all got degrees in at librarian college.
They especially don't like it when you make your percussion by rhythmically scanning book barcodes to make that beeping noise.

I'm probably coming to Arisia, and I'd love to meet you in person! Any particular place where you're likely to be hanging out? I guess you'll be in the merchant center for at least part of the time? Are you on any panels?

Hey, yeah, I saw you'd be coming!

I have very little idea of my actual schedule, though, aside from the fact that I'm sure to be at the Masquerade (along with 700 other people). As to the dealer's room, I'm not actually vending (haven't worked my way up to that yet), though I will be in to shop occasionally. Nor am I on any panels -- I rarely even make it to any panels -- though LJ ones are a good bet, if I do.

If you're wandering past the ballroom, you can always ask the tech folks if they've seen me (though preferably not anyone visibly in mid-task :-) I should be there some of this afternoon and some of tonight after 9pm. You'll know me by my badge name!

Actually, I don't know what your badge name will be. Are you one of the tech people?

I'm telling you, it'll be "chanaleh@livejournal" ;-) and yes, I am at least peripherally one of the tech people.
