Dude. MIT is officially closed as of noon due to snow.

Considering I can walk home, I'm not leaving anytime soon, but still.

They should really keep a historical log on the snow closings page, 'cause they're few and far between, I can tell you. Last year was the only previous one I can remember in my 6 years of employment.

I was oh so very tempted to wear my new cloak (that's not the exact one, but it's similar) to work today, and then didn't do it. Too self-conscious. But then, also, I thought it might get dragged in the yuck (and although it's Polartec, that still doesn't sound like a happy thing). Maybe I'll get home between now and rehearsal, and change into it then. Bwahaha.

Side note: Since yesterday, my default userpic has started breaking. Or at least, it appears and disappears. Weird.

"out here"?
are there other freaks here at lincoln?
(other than me and [livejournal.com profile] hakamadare i mean...)

(or maybe you're not a freak and i'm assuming too much by your existence on my friendsfriend's lists :)

I'm quite sure there are other freaks here at Lincoln. I might be one, but I'm probably more of a harmless geeky goombah.

-- Majordomo, a happy resident of your friendsfriendsfriend's list :)

Postscriptum: Livejournal thinks "goombah" should really be Gambia, or Gomorrah, or maybe gumbo. Luckily it didn't recommend an unfortunate malady.

i suspect the MIT closing prior to last year was the April 1st blizzard of 1997.
i was so happy that day.

My mom woke me up to say I had a snow day that day and I didn't believe her because it was april 1st. Boy was I surprised when I walked outside!

That was my freshman year. I was supposed to work at, I think, 7:30am, but instead I didn't have to open the place I was working till 4pm or so... It did take me a minute or two to be convinced that it wasn't an April Fools joke.

Of course, almost exactly a year later, March 31st, 1998, it was 90...

In my five years there there was a closing also. Oh actually it was half a day closing that's right. It was stupid none of the workers showed up so there was nowhere to eat. I ended up eating at the Marriot Hotel. I think it was my senior year so probably Feb 2001. Hell Half froze over.

That looks like a very warm cloak. Now that I have a sewing machine, I've been meaning to make one for myself. Also, you would not have been the only person on campus with a cloak (James/[livejournal.com profile] galadhelsul also wears one on a daily basis since it's basically his winter coat). His is blue and with how tall he is, it makes him easy to spot from a distance :)

Yeah, I knew I wouldn't be the only one on campus, but you can be damn sure I'd be the only one in my office. :-}

Mine is pretty warm, although it's an unlined version.

I just do not understand: 20" of snow and a windchill of -30F does not close MIT, but 4" and a windchill of -3F does? Some wussy high-up admin must have gotten his boots damp. I will be strolling to campus tonight since all the student activities I know of are still happening.

My theory is that Facilities said "come on, we've been pushing snow around on overtime for three days now and if you make us spend another twelve hours driving snow around, we're going to fall asleep and drive our snowplows into the Stata Moat."

It may have more to do with the expected rush hour conditions that anything else. Monday the snow was done by the time people would be driving home from work. Today it seems like the roads are still going to be awful, and people could be trapped on the road for hours.

Cloak!

Cloak cloak cloak!

I, too, have cloak!

Come visit. People on my campus wear them. Out of place you shall feel less of. But visit after the snow is gone. Our cloaks are a bit more spring-weather related.

I share your pain! Have wonderful long cloak that I love. Have very few days where weather conditions (no muck on ground, not colder than cloak can handle, not too hot for carrying yards of black) are appropriate for it. And then on those few days of just-right weather, to have to concern oneself with where one is going to be seen that day...

But I might try to lighten up about that. I only get to wear the darling thing about 4 times a year, and that's just not enough.

Your cloak, I know I've told you, is gorgeous! Esp with the elf-circlet on too.

Is that why you're back to the serious-face? I liked the more-smiling one a lot.
