New Year's Eve was fun. I was privileged to spend it with Matthew. He'd been invited to the Freak House party, but since we aren't sure whether I'm still persona non grata around the Freaks' (and his friends in general, that is), he came with me to my couple of parties instead.

The first was at my friends Ely and Sara Beth's (I adore them, especially Ely, and am really glad I've gotten to know them better since they joined the shul, as I didn't manage to know them very well at Brandeis. They just bought a house near Union Square and are renovating the downstairs unit for rental in the near future. It's also about 2-1/2 blocks from [livejournal.com profile] tapuz and [livejournal.com profile] laurens10's. I am sorely tempted.), where there was a sizable Brandeis contingent and a smaller Tremont Street contingent, pleasant company all around. (Amusing side note: This party featured cute Brian from Brandeis, as well as another cute Brian who I'd just met at shul this past Shabbat who apparently is a friend of Ely's. What is it with boys named Brian? It made me miss the one I'm actually dating ;-)

Then on to [livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue's for even more pleasant company, a roaring fireplace, and actual ringing in of the New Year. We went home around 1am instead of accompanying [livejournal.com profile] kalessin to [livejournal.com profile] obra's -- where incidentally Matthew's brother and sister-in-law (also visiting from NYC) were scheduled to be (!), and which turns out to have been quite the rockin' party -- ah well. Next time, I hope.

Today we talked [livejournal.com profile] jessruth into staying around long enough to go to one more New Year's Day party. So Matt and I and Jess and [livejournal.com profile] ablock and [livejournal.com profile] kalessin went to a very late (read: 4pm) brunch at the S&S, yay! And then to the party, which was entirely pleasant and included much scritching of backs and heads. [ObTease: Talked to [livejournal.com profile] xlii a bit; he's self-absorbed, but so damn sexy. *twinkle* And I love [livejournal.com profile] folzgold's top hat.]

Over and over again the past couple of days, I keep looking at Matthew and remembering how sorely I missed him all this time, and feeling intensely grateful to have him close to me again. I still don't know what this year will bring for us, but I'm glad to be starting it in this place.

Does "cute Brian from Brandeis" = "Brian from Boris's Kitchen"?

Umm? No? I mean, I don't know you that well, except through Matt (and your lj), whereas Matt's a friend, rather than a friend of a friend. But friends of friends are always potential friends, so as long as you're a friend of a friend, I'm not quite sure what would keep you from the "potential friend" category. Matt, for that matter, is still a "former friend of friend who has since become a friend, but primarily someone I see through other friends, and wouldn't mind getting to know better". Really, I'm a categorization weenie.

In other words, of course you are welcome.

Cool. Thanks. That helps. :-}

I think it's mostly marymary who dislikes me, and that was true long before I ever tried to break *up* with Matthew. Still, I hesitate to tread on someone else's turf. Beyond that, I'm just nervous about Matt's friends mistrusting me in general. I think jhango's willing to look me in the eye again now, but I'm not totally sure of *that* yet either. Though at least [as my in-box chimes] she never deleted me from the RNM list!

well, you're welcome to the Casa de los Freaks. We have plenty of friends who don't like each, but we're a safe zone when they come over. Besides, it's a big house; lots of rooms. ;)

though I'm not a freak...

I would have to say (knowing the freaks pretty well) that if the Freaks want you there, you are welcome. Any feelings non-Freaks may have are their own problems and they can just deal but they better play nice or the Troll might be used on the trouble maker. That's why we all love the Freaks. Well, that and the free beer. and the Hobbit's mad party skilz.
