I have had a very full, but worthwhile weekend. Not a lot I *had* to accomplish, but a lot that I did and attended and enjoyed (shabbat dinner at [livejournal.com profile] magid's with the Bursteins, shul where we read Shir ha-Shirim which I adore, [livejournal.com profile] jessruth's visit, [livejournal.com profile] jon_libby's seder, Yeomen today, Menschen rehearsal -- where I got assigned one of the solos in "Hallelujah", yay! -- and pizza at last tonight).

Tomorrow it's back to work for several more hours of packing, and then I have a voice lesson (!) and then a rehearsal, which may mean I will have to miss a Hitchhiker's outing, if I don't miss [livejournal.com profile] griffinick's visit altogether. And the rest of the week is similarly scheduled up.

And in the morning I should pay bills. But for tonight, all I really have to do is pull out some of my old vocal songbooks to take to this lesson, and go to bed. And I am blissfully full of margherita pizza and cocoa rum chip ice cream. And also, I am in love.

What are you singing for voice lessons? What are you rehearsing for now?

The rehearsal is for MIT's Yom HaShoah program on Thursday evening, for which I (and Tiger Boy and some other people) are singing a couple of pieces).

The voice lesson is actually a "trial" (not exactly audition) lesson with a new teacher, so I'm just supposed to bring some things I want to trot out. :-) Unfortunately, I cannot find my Schirmer Twenty-Five Italian Songs and Arias -- of which I have at least half the book memorized even 15 years later -- but maybe she'll have it on hand; and I have my other Art Song book with some of the German pieces I used to do. And I have South Pacific. I'm sure we'll be able to find enough to work on for an hour. ... I hope it's fun! I really don't know if I'm going to have the money (or time) to do very much in the way of lessons, moving forward, but I'm psyched to give it a try.

I took singing lesssons from an undergrad music major my last year at Brandeis, and really noticed a difference in just a few sessions. When I actually remember (!) to put into practice such principles as singing from the head (as opposed to throat), I find my vocal range and endurance do improve.

And what did you think of Yeomen?

I liked it. Truthfully, though, I'm not sure it is the single best MITG&SP show I've ever seen, as seems to be the popular consensus. Interestingly, almost every one of the individual performances (each actor, I mean, each role) was extremely strong... only something kept it from feeling to me like it gelled into a really cohesive whole. But maybe seeing it again with a larger audience next weekend will change my mind. :-)

Also, the set AND the lighting Absolutely Kick Ass. Wow.

*hugs*

You ask a question that has been echoing through me for a while now ... along with "how much can i forgive, accept, endure ... for love"

*hugs*

I hope tomorrow is a brighter day for you.
