The Friday before Passover (which starts on a Saturday night this year), and I still have cleaning to do this afternoon (after a flulike bout earlier this week). And, I found myself in somewhat of an emotional freakout last night over not having any "adoptive" [read: boyfriend's] family to celebrate Passover with, as I have always had for the past several years. This was the first episode that really brought home to Matthew how this interfaith dating business is harder on me than he quite understands.

Him: What?? What's the matter??

Me: Okay, let's try a little thought experiment. Imagine that it's the fourth week of November. Now imagine that you have *no* family to spend Thanksgiving with. And *now* imagine that you have no family to spend *Christmas* with... and NOW imagine facing the prospect of NEVER having any family to spend those holidays with, for the REST of your LIFE!!

*sigh*

But, dear boy, he not only took it bravely, he volunteered that for next year (in the interest of us having a next year :-) he could try to get us hooked up for seders with some of his Jewish aunts/uncles/cousins (of which, in an interesting aside, he has several), if that will help me feel more connected.

And meanwhile, I do have wonderful community seders at Tremont St. to look forward to (and Matthew will be joining me for one of those) -- and really, on a week-by-week level, that's as much my Jewish "family" as anything can be.
