Well, this is going to be the smallest Thanksgiving gathering in my memory: four of us. (Five, if you count my aunt who never actually sits down at the table, but I don't think I would.) My brother and his family aren't coming up after all, because they (a) just moved house last weekend and are busy unpacking, and (b) are fighting off colds, and hence (c) are unenthused about either driving roughly six hours (with traffic) in one day or staying overnight up here.

So it looks like on Friday, Mom and I will drive down to Mountain View instead, so that I will get to see them (including my niece, now age 7-1/2) for the first time since last Thanksgiving.

Which is okay by me, really, 'cause hey, road trip!

Mountain View? That's California. I've been there...

It is California. My mom lives nearer Sacramento.

I did not know this. One day, I can tell you stories of the two months I was living in San Ramon while working in Pleasanton, and how my layoff resulted in my driving through Sacramento to Tahoe and out to Colorado, and two months later, back down to San Diego, Los Angeles, and out (again) to Colorado.

I can't help but be curious why your aunt doesn't sit down at the table? :-)

Yah, my T-day gathering has shrunk a little over the years too, though for different reasons. It always feels a little sad.

I'll be out west next week (Tue-Wed) for a job interview!
