Was invited for dinner last night to the

folzgold-etc.] household. First time in I can't remember how long (well over a year, though, I'm sure) that I've been over there to see just them and not 100 other guests. It was a joy. Hanging out, eating yummy dinner, drinking wine, watching colored flames in the fireplace, watching the kids (who are less and less "kids" each time I see them) dance around resisting doing homework, generally catching up on gossip and life.

There's a lot about their family atmosphere that I aspire to in my own life. To have a space as pleasant as theirs, and share it so openly and generously with so many people, and maintain an impressive level of kindness and mutual respect, and all be such generally fun and cool and bright and artistic people... I'm not saying I imagine life is all beer and skittles over there, guys, but it does make me happy to know there are small pockets of domestic rightness in the universe, and to be occasionally privileged to visit this one.
