Browsing everyone's favorite button vendor at Arisia reminded me of the project I was contemplating on and off last year:

I want a 1-inch button maker! And I want to make 1-inch buttons with pithy little labels on them -- either black type on colored paper, or colored type reversed out of black.

So is this a dumb idea, or is it a fun trend waiting to happen? What would YOU want on a button like this? Would you pay $1 for it at a con?

I don't think "straight, monogamous, taken, and happy that way" would fit.

Sure it would! I'd just have to scale down the type.

Begs for a companion button in teeny type that says "stop staring at my chest."

that's why you need the "straight, monogamous, vanilla, not sorry" button from nancy :)

I choose not to be labelled. I may assert my verbs, but not my nouns.

(I sometimes assert my adjectives too, but that would have depithyized the statement.) (Yes, by my standards that was pithy.)

Yep. Saw that one coming.

Were I inclined to quibble, I might argue that's a noun defined by its verb ("to sing baritone patter songs"), or even an abbreviation for same. I think I'd even mean it. But I'd lose the quibble.

"This particularly rapid unintelligible patter
Isn't generally heard and if it is it doesn't matter."

There's a company called One Inch Round that turns these around in bulk over the net. Minimum order of 100 buttons per design, but the prices look pretty good.

Hee! If I went to a con, I'd pay $1 for one.

They make me smile, in any case.

This is just me saying, "Thank you ever so much for hurting my brain and shrinking my world." I looked at your profile and could not for the life of me figure out how the heck it was that you were commenting in Chanaleh's journal and going to Newbury Comics, but were a friend of Midwestern-to-West-Coast people like Chrysoula and Silkblade (who I met in Minnesota).

Mudd, of course. Silly me. (And you even have random pictures of Denis on your webpage, which shrunk things even more, since I've known him since 8th grade and still hang out with him here in Boston.)

So, er, to make the post topical: Chanaleh, I may need a button that says something like "My world keeps shrinking" or, similarly, "So how do you know Rich Dansky?"

I think that's "Pardon me while my world implodes." Or at least it usually is for me.

(And of course it's usually your fault.)

And I don't go to cons, so I'm not able to speak to buying them for a dollar, but they're certainly amusing me today. :)

[livejournal.com profile] tahnan dear, my idea of a button for you would simply say "nexus"...

Hey, no problem!

(Yay, Mudd! Yay, Denis! Yay, random world-shrinking!)

I find it entertaining that the web page specifically lists science fiction conventions as a place you might want one of these.

Hm. I'm not sure what I'd want on one... Although with the number of them on this page I'm surprised you haven't written a little cgi script to generate the images on the fly from colors and text.

Do they make them even smaller than 1"? What about small tie-pin-sized buttons with text?
That might be a little tricker to produce depending on your level of inspiration at the moment.

Buttons! I love buttons. I have 15 on my purse now, and this weekend I ordered nine more, which are on their merry little way to me.

My favorite button site is MushyCat. Most of their buttons are pretty riot-grrl, but if that's not your thing, they still have a great selection of other kinds of buttons.

And yeah, I'd pay for one of your buttons, your designs look cool. :-)

I like buttons, but I don't think any of the things that you're proposing would do it for me...I'm not bold enough to label. Although...if you made me one that said "doesn't fit on a button" on it I'd buy it in a second. :-)
