(1) I spent much of this afternoon updating MuffinButtons.com! Specifically, there are whole new pages of my Harry Potter and Kingdom of Loathing buttons that I've sold at cons but haven't had online at all until now.

(2) I haven't yet revamped my Computer-Aided Judaica site yet (next on my list is to update the portfolio section and add PayPal buttons for framed and unframed art pieces as well as greeting card packets). But I do have one new art piece I finally did last week, and since I've now uploaded the images, I can at least post about it here.

There are four holy cities in Israel,
which, according to the Jewish mystical tradition,
correspond to the four elements: water (Tiberias),
fire (Jerusalem), earth (Hevron), and air (Tzfat)....

Tzfat, Tiveria, Yerushalayim, Hevron

... And now, [livejournal.com profile] queue has sent me another new book chapter, so I'd best get back to the work-for-hire. :-)

Good point, I shall add it. I think it's occurred to me before, but I've never actually made those. I clearly don't hang out with enough Slytherins.

If you'd like, let me know when you have added it and I'll pick up a few. It would make a fun random prezzie for my potter-head pals.

That's so nice of you. :-) I have duly added it (and printed some up), so if you do want them, feel free anytime.

My Hebrew is weak, but I can at least recognize that the four Hebrew words are the four city names. Does the end of "Tiberias" not actually transliterate to "Tiberias" or am I misremembering? I'd expect "Tiberiah" or something.

I'm duly impressed. :-)

In Hebrew, the city is indeed known as Tiveria.
I would say that "Tiberias" is a Romanization -- except that, in fact, it was built by the Romans and named for the Emperor Tiberius (himself named for the Tiber River, also a water connection).

I did pick up on the Star Trek connection.

While I'm at it, I'll note that I identified Jerusalem without difficulty, but the transliteration is closer to "Yerushalayim." However, I recognized the word and didn't give it further thought. But since I had to think about Tiberias, the change in the word stuck out at me.

At this point, if you give me a Hebrew text and its transliteration, I can match letters against each other, but I can't really do the transliteration myself any more.

Very cool.

I wonder how it would look in a more sofer-ish kind of font.

Oh that this too too solid Hevron would Jerusalem, Tiberias, and resolve itself into a Tzfat...
