Note to my dear ones: Please don't take this as any more than a general indicator of my frame of mind today... really no more unsettled than usual. :-} (Yes, I am also doing work this morning, why do you ask?)

Maybe an ill-fated starter marriage is the way to go. That way you can just get any unrealistic expectations (which I'm not saying you have!) out of the way before you get together with the really right person. And you'll be following the trends! Some insanely high proportion of Gen Xers have starter marriages that only last 5 or fewer years.

I've heard that statistic; the concept has haunted me ever since. In that it's a phenomenon I deeply fear experiencing, and treating it as not only normal but hey, trendy!, horrifies me beyond belief. Which I guess is why, perversely, I included it on the menu here. Shine a light on those fears. Feh. :-}

But then once you've done it, you don't have to be afraid of it anymore! :)

Then again, you could be like one person I know and refer to your spouse as your "first ex-husband."

At least one other person I know would say, "Every pot has a lid." I think I'd prefer to say every pot has more than one lid. That way there's a little less pressure to find just the right lid that keeps falling behind the Pesach dishes so you can never locate it.

Nah. Been there, done that, have the emotional scars to prove it. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, which Chaneleh certainly isn't.

Update, 3:19 pm: I should note for the record that I'm finding the results tremendously cheering. Thank you, everyone. :-)

I got way too much of a kick out of clicking "Duh, it's ME!" even though I secretly believe that in a parallel universe you are having an ill-fated starter marriage with someone you will meet a year later.
