chanaleh: Snoopy at the typewriter, pondering (snoopywriter)

There's going to be a memorial service for my grandmother in Florida this Wednesday afternoon. I am actually thinking about flying down just for the day, as I can get a frequent flyer ticket. EDIT: Talked to Dad and have booked free ticket: going down early Wed., staying overnight in St. Petersburg, returning Thursday evening. Plus he'll pick me up in Tampa so I need not rent a car -- excellent. Plus I have ordered flowers to be sent from me and my brother.

Meanwhile, going to the beach tomorrow.

Made some graphics updates and content additions to my design website. Have recently completed a website commission and a calligraphy job -- yay! Working on a book job, and (hopefully soon now that SIGGRAPH is over) finishing up a cover job.

Not a lot of forward motion yet on wedding planning, except for some first efforts at invitations and dresses (the parts I care about... :-) Basically, we really need to pin down a venue before we can call the date "official", and most of the other details can wait and evolve slowly after that. (Future wedding-related posts at any greater level of detail than this will go behind a cut, in an effort to avoid becoming The Most Boring Journal Ever.)

Also, TigerParents are holding an engagement party for us in VA over Columbus Day weekend (right after Simchat Torah). As this happens also to be my birthday weekend, it means two things: (1) I'll be spending my birthday at the much-anticipated Maryland Renaissance Festival -- and (2) family birthday dinner will involve not only my Future In-Laws, but also my mom and (hopefully) stepfather, as she/they will be flying out!

Why not get married at Tremont St. and have the reception in the kiddush hall?

Actually, we pretty much would like to have the ceremony there, but have the reception somewhere else nearby.

That sounds great! ('Cause I can't quite imagine you choosing somewhere other than Tremont St., but fitting a reception in there would be, um, challenging.

Please keep me posted about your Columbus Day plans...I'd certainly come down from Baltimore to try and see you (and congratulate you in person!!!). It's been way too long since I've seen you, and since you'll be basically in my neck of the woods.... :)

Oh go for it. The travel probably won't be pleasant, but you get to be there.

(as for the other: If wedding plans are so boring, why are there whole TV series dedicated to them?)

Because of the nigh-unto-infinite possibilities for TEH DRAMA.

"I am actually thinking about flying down just for the day, as I can get a frequent flyer ticket."

You might be able to get a discounted ticket from an airline, if you tell them it's for a funeral.

Yeah, but really, I can get the frequent flyer one for free (or $10), which is as good a use of those 25k miles as I can imagine.

Normally I offer help with invitations, but...

I agree that a venue is the key element, though the dress and invitations and such are more fun, usually.

If time allows would like to see about a sitdown meal with you two. Columbus day is when I asked [livejournal.com profile] giraffeaholic to marry me.
