Gleanings of joy

This week's Puzzability quote:
E.B. White said, "We should all do what in the long run gives us joy, even if it is only picking grapes or sorting the laundry."

Joyful things this weekend:
  • Both [livejournal.com profile] melissaagray and [livejournal.com profile] farwing turned up to shul Friday night. How awesome is that??
  • It is rumored that [livejournal.com profile] jessruth had a highly successful date ;-)
  • HM's Sunday rehearsal included auditions for the solo on a new piece we're learning. I wasn't really planning to even try for it, but then I did... and, er, got it. :-}
  • [livejournal.com profile] kalessin and I made chicken soup, complete with matzah balls, for [livejournal.com profile] ablock's Souper Bowl viewing. I only wish I could have stayed longer to enjoy people's enjoyment of it... but I needed to get on to [livejournal.com profile] rjpb's, where I arrived just in time for the first touchdown.
  • The Patriots won.

There were other good things that went on this weekend, which, unfortunately, I've since come to feel rather a complete fool for having taken any joy in. It's worse in that I feel like I have no right to be dismayed, or disappointed, but can't help it nevertheless.

At least it's given me a lot to think about.

Also, in only tangentially related news, it sucks to send a where-are-you-please-write e-mail to someone you miss who's been on your mind... and get no response, not even an acknowledgment. Sucks. Knowing that I myself am sometimes guilty of inflicting this same behavior doesn't help, either.

Maybe said person is in the middle of deadline pressure at work or ill and not logging in or on vacation or having computer problems or... ?

Entirely possible... but until I get more information, trying to rationalize doesn't make it suck any less. :-}

You could phone said person. Or is that blasphemy?

I don't even know if the phone number (nor mailing address) I have is current.

Worth a try, I guess. (But when the content of the shout-out is "hi, am I supposed to be taking a hint here?" -- well, now I'm hesitant to call without an initial response.)

Ah. Well then. It all depends on circumstances, I guess.

Argh! I did that to myself with a letter mailed *years* ago, and *still* feel debarred from trying to contact them again. It taught me the lesson of structuring choices so that silence = me being debarred from further action, but it still sucks. *hugs*

The quote: I did the puzzle, but had to pretty much complete the whole thing before I saw the word JOY in there. I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] bethr would read much meaning into this (not that I disagree).

I understand about the contact thing. I have one old friend whom I call periodically, not in more than a year though. Last I called she asked for my number again and said she wanted to keep in touch but was really busy. So I told her, when yo uhave time and want to talk call me. I never heard from her again. I'm tempted to try again around her birthday just to wish her a happy birthday.
