[Quick context: Gilbert & Sullivan's Utopia, Ltd. is set on the South Pacific island of Utopia, which decides that it is henceforth going to model itself on glorious England... with hilarious consequences. Or, at least, lengthy musical ones.]

For Act II, we dress up after the British fashion, but in Act I most of us are costumed as Utopian natives. So at last night's rehearsal I got my (mostly finished) costume for Act I.

Most of the chorus women are wearing sarongs (with T-shirt-style tops). Mine is, instead, a skintight stretch tropical print halter dress (ankle-length). It is DANGEROUS! I think it might be the first G&S costume I actually enjoy more than my Iolanthe faerie getup (see userpic).

Oh yeah, and I also sing a brief solo verse in the opening number, in which we lounge languorously about the stage. Performances April 4-13. Reserve your tickets now. :-)

Well, don't be fooled -- our version has cut out an entire plot angle as well. (I expect it's the same one, but I didn't see Harvard's.)

Well, Harvard also cut out several of the flowers of progress...

I was in the pit orchestra, so I had a pretty decent seat, though I really wish that during the first half the men had a better concept of how to sit in a skirt...
