Wow, it's amazing how quickly time passes when you're actually using it to get stuff done!

Since (as I begin this) I have almost 1/2 hour before I must head off to tonight's rehearsal performance, I'm indulging in the Friday Five.

1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?
  1. Apt (I assume) in Dayton, OH: 1972-73
  2. Apt in Hobart, IN: 1973-74
  3. House in Valparaiso, IN: 1974-89

  4. Dorms at Brandeis, 1 year apiece
  5. Hassenfeld Hall
  6. Usen Castle
  7. Shapiro Hall B
  8. Renfield Hall

  9. Waltham apartments:
  10. Summer sublet at 76-1/2 Russell St., 1991
  11. Crescent St., 1993-1995
  12. South St., 1995-1996

  13. Cambridge apartment:
  14. Prospect St., 1996-present
I think that's exhaustive, anyway.

2. Which was your favorite and why? I love my current place because it's MINE, ALL MINE! and near work and shul and the T and most other good things in my life. Strictly on its own merits, I did like the Crescent St. apartment a lot. And then I have a certain fondness for 76-1/2 Russell St. just because it was the setting for such an interesting summer (I keep meaning to write that one up for posterity sometime; [livejournal.com profile] cos, help? :-)

3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why? Moving is hell; I always forget between-times exactly how hellish it is, and then I remember when it happens again. However, I also do find it a thrilling prospect. Real estate ads are my porn of choice (ironic considering I haven't moved in almost 7 years now, and have no intention of moving this spring either).

4. What's more important, location or price? Hmm, based on my choices in practice I'd have to say location, but within that, price is a huge constraint.

5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)? Of course there are several levels of "dream" to go through here, but to start with my principal yearnings...
A master bedroom (ultimately, to share :-) plus a guest bedroom, plus some "office"/hackroom space for each adult. A dining area that can accommodate 8-10 people seated at an actual table. A kitchen with adequate counter space and a stainless-steel double sink (for kashrut purposes). A bathtub that fits two adults. Lots of shelf space (esp. bookshelves). Hardwood floors. A porch (esp. a wraparound porch) on which to eat breakfast in the summertime. A garden (esp. with some kind of water feature: a fountain, a brook running through it, a view of the ocean...). Maple trees. Lilacs. Honeysuckle. Crocuses and tulips.

Break a leg!

btw--I knew you were from Indiana, but I never knew you lived in Dayton! Cool! (Well, actually, having been there for a couple family reunions, to be honest I have to say "I'm sorry"...)
