Quickly, before our 10am meeting.

Since I so enjoyed those from [livejournal.com profile] palmwiz, [livejournal.com profile] miss_chance, [livejournal.com profile] tcb et al. ...
Post a picture of yourself from high school!

This isn't a great shot, but it's the one I have handy online. From 1988, probably during the summer after my junior year. (The person who took it claimed 1987, but the t-shirt gives that the lie. I still have the shirt, though it is considerably yellower now. Note the Swatch!)

Aside from hairstyle, I don't see any major difference- but usually it is the hair, isn't it?
I've seen a few of these "flashback" pics of friends. The most striking so far has been tcb at 16ish with not even a hint of facial hair. My ~14 year old self would have had such a huge crush on his ~16 year old self.
Speaking of 14 year old me, as soon as the network here allows, I'm going to post one from '88, too. I can definitely say that I had spent /hours/ on my hair (laugh!)

Hi. You probably don't remember me. I think we corresponded a bit when I lived in Newton, MA, back in the early 1990s.

How are you?

Oh, this is Kevin Schwartz, btw.

I do remember you! Short stories, right? (I can't remember how we ever originally got in touch in the first place, but yes.) Boy, I guess this really is the blast-from-the-past entry. And now you're in Wisconsin?

Yeah, short stories, poems, political essays, book reviews, jokes, puns, dialogs ... whatever I was able to wipe from my none-too-teeming brow. Lately, alas, mostly just puns.

Speaking of writing ... I was hoping I could encourage you to join some of the writing communities I'm in, including, perhaps, applying to [livejournal.com profile] poetryslamming. (But be SURE to read their profile page before doing anything else at all there, because they have like 10 billion rules, and people get banned for violating them. That's the down side, but the up side is that there are an amazing number of good poets there.)

My family and I moved to Wisconsin in the summer of 1994.

If you were a member of ISPE and / or Mensa in the early 1990s, we may have "met" through one of their journals. If not ... maybe one of Boston's literary magazines?

My AOL screen name is the exceptionally imaginative (*rolls eyes*) kvschwartz.

Yeah, I think it was Mensa, now you mention it. How'd you happen to stumble on me here?

I don't know about [livejournal.com profile] poetryslamming... I'm feeling a little intimidated (and not in a productive way, necessarily) just reading the frickin' profile. If I were going to join a writing group, virtual or otherwise, I'm not sure that's the atmosphere I would choose. 8-)

Yeah, applying *is* scary.

But I think you'd get in. And once in, you'd meet a lot of really good poets, who often have great feedback. (To one another. Not to applicants.)

If you don't want to apply to 'slam' right away, you could start by joining, say, [livejournal.com profile] write_away and [livejournal.com profile] heart_on. Neither requires an application.

=========

Are you still in Mensa? I belong to [livejournal.com profile] mensanminds, and I just recently rejoined TNS (http://www.triplenine.org/), but at the moment I'm an ex-Mensan.

How did I stumble on your lj here ... well,

1) I was looking through my bin of computer stuff, looking for a CD that has Explorer so I can reinstall it. (My Explorer has lots of errors, and I can't seem to download corrections from the site.)

2) So, I found your disk of poems ... I don't know if that disk is compatible with anything I have now, but seeing it reminded me of you.

3) So, out of random curiosity, I did a Google search and thus found your button website.

4) That linked to your lj.

So ... voila.

I don't have many pictures of myself from after I turned, say, six. I'm horribly shy of cameras.

This picture was taken of me at a music festival in France during the summer after either my sophomore year or my junior year at Princeton. Cropped out of the photo (in order to fit the 100x100 limit) is my crush at the time (of all time?), Val. Her mother took the photo. (Val is kinda hugging me in this photo, and yet I'm still not smiling. I *really* hate having my photo taken.)

Val is now married with two kids. Oy.

That's okay, it meant you could show off all your icons too. :-)
