Things I have done in the past... wow, 2 weeks:

Interviewed with four different people at Jewish Day School #3, and have now scheduled a "final round" interview for this coming Friday. Third time's the charm? We'll see!

Finally went to the Met (the museum, not the opera), and oh, was it beautiful. That is, I saw a whole lot of beautiful things, but the Tiffany glass and the Italian scuplture particularly filled my soul. It felt like getting an instant daytrip to Paris or Venice, being as outstanding art museums figured prominently in my experience of both places. And I had earlier signed up for a membership (an associate membership while I still had an address 200mi outside NYC, heh), so I knew that I didn't need to See Everything Worthwhile in one visit but could browse with infinite leisure. Awesome.

Saw two plays, one meh (The Wood, which left us going "Were we supposed to care about this?") and one fantastic (Keen Company's Lemon Sky by Lanford Wilson, at which I burst into wrung-out tears five seconds after the lights came up; it's running through Oct. 22 and very worth seeing).

Had a housewarming! I had almost as many friends show up as [livejournal.com profile] justom did, which was kind of depressing for him :-} but heart-warming for me. I only wish I'd spent more time actually in the party hanging out with everyone, because... somehow I managed to miscalibrate the number of cocktails I poured myself, and/or forget to eat anything appropriately resembling dinner. I drank the last one down all at once when I took the last appetizers (mini spinach quiches) out of the oven, and... suddenly found myself violently ill and had to go lie down for the rest of the party. Oops. (I think it's so rare for me to actually manage to drink too much that I forget it's possible.) I'd kind of like a do-over for my birthday tomorrow night, but I doubt I'm going to get it!

Had kind of an emotional crisis the ensuing two days, for reasons I won't get into, but it drove me to a good deal of self-care as follows:
* spent some time sitting and reading by the waterfall in Central Park
* went to the local branch of the New York Public Library, which is around the block from our house
* lots of walking, including one jaunt from home down to 42nd St. and back, which turns out to be about 8 miles -- huh!
* called several of my peeps for emotional support, and got it
* thought about taking myself out to a movie, but couldn't find anything I wanted to see
* took myself out for Chinese food (no Mary Chung's, but it was OK)
* spent the better part of a morning hanging out in Cafe Amrita (one of my "home base" places) reading the Village Voice
* re-read several Dorothy Sayers books
* got a manicure and pedicure
* eventually calmed myself down enough to come home and address the actual issues, which was a good thing.

Interviewed for the Backstage side of the Blue Hill Troupe, having been deferred from Frontstage based on my audition as previously noted. The Backstage interview was much more a process of "come in and chat with us while we enthuse about everything we found to like on your application", which was gratifying, and thus, I was not too surprised to be let in. Subsequently attended my first general Troupe meeting this past Monday night and got put in touch with several people who are anxious to put me to work on the program ads for both the Fall and Spring shows...!

Had Rosh Hashanah services at three different venues (all of which were very good in different ways), and meals by three different hosts (ditto). Spent day 2 with the yeshiva bochur, who was in NYC helping run services for a Modern Orthodox minyan he's worked with for a few years, and that was lovely -- and on Friday night, it no longer being Rosh Hashanah, we went to B'nai Jeshurun for a complete change of pace and he really liked that too.

Bused up to Boston for [livejournal.com profile] dpolicar & [livejournal.com profile] earthling177's wedding reception, which was a treat except for the part where I was a total zombie due to being so tired (Every single person I spoke to: "How's New York??!?" Me: "... IT'S GREAT... *zonk*"). Met up afterwards with [livejournal.com profile] cycon at HONK! and eventually ended up at Gargoyles with a group of about 10 awesome people I don't see enough of, which was an excellent way to get some social time in.

Saw my mom and stepfather for the first time in 2 years, and am thankful to report that it was a very peaceful and affectionate and drama-free visit. (Oh, though this reminds me I should really call my dad today too.) They were in MA from CA for a week, visiting my stepbrother who now lives in Tyngsboro, so I had promised to come up while they were there. [livejournal.com profile] justom wasn't able to come along, due to being slammed with work for school, but it was just as well for me to have an icebreaker visit with them first, I think.

Took it easy yesterday, mostly lounging/reading, cooking, laundry, and catching up on correspondence (I did also get a half-hour walk in). I've been feeling on and off like I'm actually, physically coming down with something (could just be inadequate/disrupted sleep, but manifests also with scratchy throat and general malaise), so gave myself permission to chill.

Today I should finish sending my second batch of R"H cards, do some more cooking, apply to some more jobs, and -- oh yeah -- invite people to come have birthday cake with me tomorrow night! 8:30pm, our house. There will also be a dinner outing beforehand for the trayf-inclined, 6:30pm at Dinosaur BBQ. To clarify: all b'day festivities will be in the UWS/Harlem area; sorry, Boston gang!!
