10 goals from 2012 ( cf. original list: LJ | DW )
1. Finally replace the Treo 680 with an Android phone Yes! I got a Samsung GravitySmart, and although I know now that I should upgrade to something with more memory next time (so I can actually install all the apps I might possibly find life-enhancing, instead of restricting myself to bare essentials), I generally love it.
2. Go contra dancing at least once per calendar month I went four times (Jan, Feb, April, and June), which is twice what I managed in 2011, but then, I lived here three times as long. >:-)
3. Establish a habit of walking home from work at least once a week Failed on this -- I don't think I even did it once.
4. Implement new website for Ramaz In progress.
5. Host a Shabbat dinner Twice!
6. Take (and post) more pictures Did well with this, as you know if you follow my Flickr stream.
7. Get net worth up over $100,000 Quite handily, actually, once work got my pension matching set up. (Then again, I think the market was down when I set this goal, and subsequently rebounded.) I think I can be more ambitious for 2013.
8. Join the Frontstage side of the Blue Hill Troupe Bailed on auditioning at the last minute. This was partly because I felt insecure having auditioned for the fall show and failed to get cast even in the chorus, and partly because they recruited me to be lead designer for the program of the spring show this year, which I figured was enough Trouping to be going on with. So... maybe next year.
9. Establish a partnership with the shared goal of having a family In progress.
10. Complete a draft of a novel Gamely started NaNoWriMo, got about 10,000 words in (probably half of which was old material I pulled together from my archives), then petered out. But I made enough headway to feel like I got a foothold, and will be able to move forward on it this year.
10+ additional achievements of 2012:
1. Found two new therapists, one awesome and one at least productive.
1a. Detoxed significantly from thesheer hell emotional challenges of 2011.
2. Acquitted myself well enough on the BHT Utopia program design/production team that they recruited me to be lead designer for the Mikado program this spring.
3. Successfully closed the tax entity formerly known to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Honorable Menschen. (How they're managing it now is no longer my problem.)
4. Took a long-awaited trip to the Bay Area, in which I finally introduced
justom to my mom and family, and spent some excellent time with
tallou and family, among other folks.
5. Experimented with a low-carb food plan ( LJ | DW ) for 30 days.
6. Joined a synagogue AND a synagogue choir, and read Torah there twice.
7. Sang Tessa once again in The Gondoliers at Temple Israel Center in White Plains (January), and sang chorus in 3 more productions with Utopia Unlimited -- Yeomen of the Guard (March), Trial By Jury (July) and Gondoliers (September).
8. Planned and carried out my dad's first-ever visit to NYC (and finally got him to meet
justom as well).
9. Cleaned out ALL my shoeboxes of 25+ years' worth of old cards and letters, reducing the stash to one remaining cardboard carton, one "scrapbook" bin, two neat files of playbills, and several enormous piles of recycling.
10. Took my first class in ASL. After 6 sessions, I now have a vocabulary of, what, 60 signs? There's a second course planned for this spring, if anyone in the area wants to join me (Wed nights Jan-March).
11. ... And, oh yeah, turned 40 and had an awesome celebration to mark it.
10 goals for 2013:
1. Body: Do a longer low-carb/grain-and-sugar-elimination experiment.
Strictly speaking, this is the first up, as I'm thinking about starting next week and seeing if I can stick it out through the end of Passover, which is April 2, so about 90 days. Note that this begs the question of whether I can face the logistics of a low-carb Arisia. ;-)
2. Home: Reduce my wardrobe to 400 pieces.
So far, from a starting point of 715 ( LJ | DW ), I am already down to 583 -- an 18% reduction. Goal of 400 represents a 46% reduction, so technically I am 39% of the way there. Ironically, of course, from here on out, each piece gone represents a progressively larger percentage of the remaining total (in the way of these things). But I have faith that it is possible.
3. Freelance: Complete, print, and get paid for the book production project I've been working on since winter of 2009-10.
It's a project of the Lincoln (MA) Historical Society, so the hard deadline -- for real this year -- is an April 13-15 release for Patriots Day, meaning we go to press no later than mid-March. Sooner would be better, though.
4. Family: Take a 10-day vacation with my mom to Hawaii to celebrate her 70th birthday.
And manage not to kill either her or myself by the end of it. (... Naw, I really am looking forward to it, I am just preparing mentally with some strategies for possible trouble spots.)
5. Work: Launch the completely new website for Ramaz.
I don't want to say "finish", because it's going to be a living and evolving thing once it's up, but getting to launch will be huge. And it needs to happen this spring so that we have the summer for teachers to work on setting up their own class pages.
6. Writing: Flesh out my professional blog.
I technically launched it last week with my first official post, but have a ton of work cut out for myself in terms of posting new material.
7. Home: Renew our lease that expires Aug. 31 (or, conversely, find a new place and move, since that's going to be huge if we decide on it).
8. Performance: Re-audition for the Blue Hill Troupe's Frontstage arm, OR audition for Light Opera of New York or the JPPC.
9. Writing: Complete a draft of a novel.
10. Financial: Get net worth (liquid assets and retirement savings) up to $130k.
Wishing all of us a year of physical health, emotional growth, and spiritual abundance.
