chanaleh: It's hard work being bitter (bitter)

I did not realize until I looked at my Dreamwidth notifications that the last few entries I posted here, which I had blithely assumed would cross-post to LJ as they always have, did not. Because there are "technical issues" causing LiveJournal to reject Dreamwidth crossposts (more info here and here), and after enough silent failures and lack of progress in attempting to resolve the issues, Dreamwidth gave up and decided to just turn off crossposting to LJ altogether.

So... that LJ account has been a shell for years already, and presumably anyone still reading me is already here now? But I just syndicated my Dreamwidth RSS to LJ as https://chanaleh-dw.livejournal.com/ so once it fetches out the feed, you should be able to read from there. Not sure how friendslocked entries work there, but it's a start.

For that matter, I've never really gotten the friends-locked circles thing working properly here on DW. I am sure I never replicated the old LJ topic permissions for most people who are following me here now. Basically, ping me if you want to be able to look back (or forward) and see more from me than you're seeing. :-D

It appears we are not mutuals here. I like you but you don't like me! sniff.

https://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=118 vaguely explains how rss feeds and locked entries work.

DW has a set of filters for controlling who can read your entries (which I would call acls, and they call access filters), and a different set of filters (which I would call reading lists, and they call subscription lists) for looking at a subset of things you subscribe to collected onto a single reading page. (Many styles give you the option of a "subscription filters" box to put on your reading page(s) to switch between subscription/reading lists.) The access filters behave more like LJ friends-locked circles, but without also being reading lists. In theory when you imported from LJ (if you did?), DW created an access filter for each LJ access list, and marked all of your limited-access entries accordingly, but those filters will have the openid livejournal users on them, not the dreamwidth users, so you may wish to update accordingly.

At this point, I would be disinclined to trust any LJ openid unless I knew it was still actively in use by its original owner, and maybe not even then. The LJ password database has been cracked (at least once, maybe more), and my trust for the current owners is lacking.

I don't remember whether the "claim your LJ ID" operation (for taking control of things like imported comments) did anything to update filters.

Thanks for the reminder of your journal, I'll catch up! I left LJ when it became too Russian!

I post to DW, assuming it'll cross post to LJ or not, and I won't suffer if it doesn't. It is what it is, nothing more.

Regardless, it's nice to hear from you again.
