Humidity: Having sat in my air-conditioned office all day, I feel slightly less like a wrung-out towel. I fear going home, though. (It's not the heat....) Maybe I'll go out somewhere this evening for a while longer, instead of puttering around the house like I really should.
DVN: I originally had no intention of going to the Da Vinci's Notebook concert Saturday night (though
ablock had suggested it). But on my date with C we ended up walking around Harvard Square in the late evening so he could shoot some pictures, and as it was getting on for 10pm I said "Hey, we should go look in the windows at Passim and wave to all the people we know." So we did. Only, after much waving,
cos and
awfief came out to drag us bodily into the two open seats left in the house. (I'll refrain from name-dropping the 25 other friends and acquaintances who were there, 'cause you know who you are.) So we went.
And boy, was I glad, because it was awesome.
ablock had played me one or two tracks of DVN's, but I think I didn't really get it before. Now I get it! The show was about half their awesome a cappella singing and half horsing around improv comedy. Even though the overall proportion of fart jokes was rather above my personal tolerance -- still, it was a blast.
However, on the whole I think I really got more out of the opening performer: Sean Altman, formerly of Rockapella, now pushing his solo career. Oh, was he fun to listen to. Especially when he brought another ex-Rockapella-ite, Charlie Everett, up with him to do a couple numbers. They sang "Cupid" and my heart swelled so that I had to listen with my hand pressed to my chest (and a confounded, ecstatic grin on my face). I tend to forget about it until it comes up, but I think that's one of my favorite songs. Also, Sean came up again later with DVN to do Rockapella's arrangement of "Zombie Jamboree," which I haven't heard in ages, and now I must learn it so I can sing all the verses instead of just the chorus. :-)
So even though I didn't get to sit with my date (and there were several moments where I would have enjoyed sharing snarky comments with him), I had a good time sitting with
cos who I never see anymore -- and at the next table from Joy and Ben who I never see anymore either. Yay!
Ginger: I feel like a total slave to the capitalist system, but desperate times call for desperate measures: Seeing as the limited-edition Ginger Altoids appear to be in short supply on this coast (
tapuz, I still don't know where you found yours), I ordered a stash of them on eBay. They arrived today. Five tins! Of course I will share... but sparingly, I fear, so as to extend them as long as possible. ;-)
