Humidity: Having sat in my air-conditioned office all day, I feel slightly less like a wrung-out towel. I fear going home, though. (It's not the heat....) Maybe I'll go out somewhere this evening for a while longer, instead of puttering around the house like I really should.

DVN: I originally had no intention of going to the Da Vinci's Notebook concert Saturday night (though [livejournal.com profile] ablock had suggested it). But on my date with C we ended up walking around Harvard Square in the late evening so he could shoot some pictures, and as it was getting on for 10pm I said "Hey, we should go look in the windows at Passim and wave to all the people we know." So we did. Only, after much waving, [livejournal.com profile] cos and [livejournal.com profile] awfief came out to drag us bodily into the two open seats left in the house. (I'll refrain from name-dropping the 25 other friends and acquaintances who were there, 'cause you know who you are.) So we went.

And boy, was I glad, because it was awesome. [livejournal.com profile] ablock had played me one or two tracks of DVN's, but I think I didn't really get it before. Now I get it! The show was about half their awesome a cappella singing and half horsing around improv comedy. Even though the overall proportion of fart jokes was rather above my personal tolerance -- still, it was a blast.

However, on the whole I think I really got more out of the opening performer: Sean Altman, formerly of Rockapella, now pushing his solo career. Oh, was he fun to listen to. Especially when he brought another ex-Rockapella-ite, Charlie Everett, up with him to do a couple numbers. They sang "Cupid" and my heart swelled so that I had to listen with my hand pressed to my chest (and a confounded, ecstatic grin on my face). I tend to forget about it until it comes up, but I think that's one of my favorite songs. Also, Sean came up again later with DVN to do Rockapella's arrangement of "Zombie Jamboree," which I haven't heard in ages, and now I must learn it so I can sing all the verses instead of just the chorus. :-)

So even though I didn't get to sit with my date (and there were several moments where I would have enjoyed sharing snarky comments with him), I had a good time sitting with [livejournal.com profile] cos who I never see anymore -- and at the next table from Joy and Ben who I never see anymore either. Yay!

Ginger: I feel like a total slave to the capitalist system, but desperate times call for desperate measures: Seeing as the limited-edition Ginger Altoids appear to be in short supply on this coast ([livejournal.com profile] tapuz, I still don't know where you found yours), I ordered a stash of them on eBay. They arrived today. Five tins! Of course I will share... but sparingly, I fear, so as to extend them as long as possible. ;-)

LIMITED EDITION?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I'm tempted not to tell anyone that you can buy them at Trader Joe's now and just get 'em all myself for the "includes gelatin" section of my car that is not in my home.... but my car already contains too many multiudes of stuff, so I guess I'll share :-)

Sounds like the show Saturday was fun... and I think it is cooling off some on the humidity front???

I thought I saw you there....

Yeah, I knew way too many people in the room. (I was sitting on the sideline, behind awfief)

Still have songs stuck in my head...

If you take two at a time, you get a nice burn going after the second set, which I guess is why I find that they last longer than Cloud Nine's Speakeasy Gingermints (which are often also stale...)

Hm, is there anything stronger out there that is easily available other than Trader Joe's quasi candied ginger, the real stuff and those annoying (imo) chews? (Not that I'm adverse to less accessible sources, just that products are even less likely to be kosher...)

I have the sheet music, if that helps, although it is presumably not the original arrangement--it's in the CASA songbook which is arranged for beginner-level SATB groups. (I forget what CASA stands for but it's something like Contemporary A capella Society of America.) You're welcome to borrow the book, anyways.
