(yes, [livejournal.com profile] adamosity, I made it!)

I mean, making the last FedEx pickup in my own office building -- had I not planned quite so poorly -- might have provided some ordinary, garden-variety, get-home-an-hour-earlier contentment. But zipping down to the Financial District, and finding the Federal St. drop location right at the stroke of 9pm only by Sheer Dumb Luck -- that's a rush. Ha! I figured I might as well try it, since the worst that could happen was that the package had to wait until tomorrow... the same as if I didn't try at all.

I was so pleased that I proceeded to ramble around Post Office Square for a while, until I got my bearings somewhere around State Street, so I looped down through Quincy Market (where all the shops were closed but all the open-air restaurants -- and it is a lovely night -- were full of people watching the Big Sox Game), and back up through Downtown Crossing, and hopped right onto a Red Line train at Park Street. More perfect timing.

Life is good.

Ah, no no! I work in Kendall Square (at MIT -- specifically The MIT Press). And I don't even really know my way around the warren that is the Financial District. That's why it was a big deal to successfully make it over there. :-)

warrens are made by cute burrowing animals like bunnies. the financial district was made by following cow paths. other than that nitpick I must agree with the general confusion that it can cause. did I mention that I was with the conglomerate publisher? http://www.twbookmark.com/index.html free books are fun.

nothing to glamorous: in the MIS / Operations department making sure that all and sundry do indeed get all the data/reports that they need to function.

I had sorta the same kind of experience Tuesday, waiting 20 minutes for the CT2 to come take me to the BU area, deciding it was late enough that even if the bus came (and I wasn't at all sure it was SUPPOSED to come to the spot I was waiting) it would get me there too late to matter... went to my car, decided to try driving there on the off chance... and got there in plenty of time. (For the MBA information session that reassured me that I don't want an MBA from BU. But hey, now I know something.)
