Since I went to bed at midnight (well, it would have been 1am, but the first 1am, as I turned the clocks back then), waking up at almost 9:30 was a treat.

I'd been dreaming that I had a new apartment that I was unpacking, and although I think it was a studio, there were so many wonderful alcoves and divisions of space that I was having a ball figuring out where everything should go. When I woke up, I wanted to go back to sleep and finish out the dream -- that's how much fun I was having. This suggests to me some serious subconscious yearnings... but whatever.

Got up and kicked some serious housecleaning ass, though. Changed the bedsheets, with lavender linen spray (somehow I always remember that for [livejournal.com profile] jessruth when she's here, but rarely for myself). Did two large loads of laundry and one load (= drainerful) of dishes. Recycled newspapers and actually read some of this week's. Rewrote my to-do list (yeah, more of a meta-accomplishment; but it's better having two categorized clean sheets of paper than three ragged scribbled-out ones). Baked banana bread at last (2 loaves!); also made awesome French toast for breakfast and mushroom-barley stuff for lunch. Go me.

[livejournal.com profile] jessruth reminded me last night (on the phone, when I called her in a bit of a funk) that if I did feel like staying in for an evening, it didn't have to mean moping; surely I could find plenty of house stuff to occupy myself. Obviously she's right, but I'm only ever really psyched for these things in the morning (or occasionally very late at night). If I'd stayed home all of last night, it would have been moping. Today I was actually motivated.

Changing the sheets and doing the laundry brought to mind a snippet of conversation from several months ago:
[livejournal.com profile] chanaleh: "Taking dirty pictures isn't the only reason to own plain white sheets."
[livejournal.com profile] mattrolls: "Yeah, but it's the only reason you own plain white sheets!"
[livejournal.com profile] chanaleh: "... Point taken."

Yesterday at Trader Joe's I bought a whole can of Kenya AA coffee, but having made some today, I don't really care for it. (I should have known better; although I like Kenya AA, I really only like dark roast, and this wasn't it.) I ground the beans in the store, and I'll use it if I keep it (I didn't hate it), but... anyone want it who'd be more excited than me about it?

And now, off to [livejournal.com profile] musicjill's housewarming; and later, my first real Menschen rehearsal!

Mm, Kenya AA. I love light-to-medium roasts and African coffee, so if you don't want the stuff I'll gladly take it off your hands.

All right, I think that could be arranged.

Glad I could inspire you, both on the lavender front and on the no-moping front. Sounds like productivity won out over moping. Glad to hear it.

Though I'm still trying to figure out the white sheet thing....

and another thing...

It's good, though! I bought the disc (on Amazon) some weeks back and this was the first I'd managed to put it on. I really don't get the urge for classical music that often, but some Sunday mornings it's really just the thing, and this was.

I am NOT a coffee drinker . . . but I know there are lots of dessert recipies, most utilizing chocolate, that need coffee . . . might be a good use for it.

Haven't tried the Kenyan AA but my luck's been hit or miss with TJ's and coffee. The Kaui was really hideously awful; the Mexican Double Dark is terrific, particularly if you like dark roasts. Works well in the espresso pot as well.

Glad to hear of productivity and better moods. That stolen hour of daylight always makes me want to hibernate. Hence, reliance on a good brand of coffee. :)

I've bought their Italian Roast before, and liked that all right. Wanted to try something different, but as you say, hit or miss. Having ground the thing, noticed the Bay Blend and wished I'd tried that. It really would be nice if they sold a sampler pack instead of whole pounds only. My usual brew is plain French roast (generally Equal Exchange from the Harvest Co-op).

hm, might be worth filling out a comment card or something next time you're there... I have no idea what the difference in taste is between some of their coffees since you can't smell them the way you can with scoop your own, so it's hard for me to buy there also...

Heh, this sounds like a party idea. an assortment of the local coffee varieties, brewed in separate (clean) pots. If folks were willing to toss two bits in a hat, it wouldn't even be that expensive.

Winter is coming...if nobody beats me to it, maybe I'll put something like that together.

I'm not that big a coffee junkie, but it would be interesting to see the dynamic at the party as the caffeine started to kick in. :)
