Pre-Arisia spazz

Guess what else I did this morning?

Colored my hair.
Red.

It's, um... it's rather Tori. :-}

So far everyone says it looks nice, and suits my coloring well. I'm basically willing to believe this, and happy with it, although I fear it is also sadly uneven (I never can get the back to quite match the front). But it's going to take me a tad bit of getting used to!

I colored it red a couple of times in college and thereafter (the last time I guess was actually for Iolanthe, fall of '99), and almost never could anyone even tell I'd done it. This... well, it's visible. (Though maybe not SO glaring as it feels to me right now.)

Maybe the DAY before Arisia was not the time to try this... but all things considered, I felt like I needed to go into this con with a certain kind of mojo on my side. "I'm not that chained-up little person still in love with you"... well, okay, so maybe I am, but I don't have to look like her...

Nothing wrong with a redhead. Then again, I'm biased.

This I have to see.

I'd expect it to look good, though. Assuming you mean red like in the usual run of red hair, not fire-engine red or something unnatural like that.

You will see it, certainly! As soon as you'd like.

(In a similar vein, [livejournal.com profile] tenore said: "Oh, you should have done it yesterday, so you could have surprised everyone at Wednesday lunch!" Heh.)

cooooool! :)
i'm being annoyed that my hair is being unevenly colored right now... it'll be time for another hair-coloring party soonish, would you like to be on the invite list for that? it helps a LOT in getting the back and front even if someone else is doing it for you, and it's a lot cheaper and more fun than a salon :)

I don't know how soon I'll be ready to touch this job up; I think you have to wait a couple weeks between? (Nor do I expect to start doing this more often than once-every-few-years.) Still, I would be happy to be on the list, just in case! I can definitely see the value of an extra pair of hands (and eyes) to get at the back. I don't think I've ever tried to color my hair when it's been this long. Not that you'd know anything about THAT. :-)

Ooo. You have got the coloring for a redhead, certainly. Can't wait to see it. :)

I remember thinking that your hair was redder during Iolanthe, but it never occurred to me that it might be dyed...:)

I dyed my hair black once and almost no one could tell because it was a really crappy dye and washed out almost immediately.

I was trying to get up the courage to dye my hair purple but given my inexperience, I bailed.
Can't wait to see you though and you know you'll have lots of hugs in addition to your mojo, throughout the weekend. :)

Neat! And fwiw, the day before Arisia seems like the perfect time.

I'd certainly like to see it, Arisia should be a good time anyway, and I'm sure the hair mojo will help :)

Awesome! Red hair rocks! I need to dye mine again...just waiting for a time I can wear manic panic and not get fired :)

A) Wanna see it
B) Before Arisia is a great time to try this -- lots of friends and huge crowds that will not be disapproving
C) I wish I could dye my hair blue again, but not as long as I could potentially be interviewing for jobs.

Darling, you know my red will never hold a candle to yours :-)

Still, maybe some good photo ops are in store!

So when do we get to see pictures, for those non-Arisia bound?

That explains why during Iolanthe I thought your hair was brown with a reddish tinge and since then I've never been sure of whether the red was actually there.

It does have a reddish tinge, even naturally; particularly in sunlight. (So does my mom's hair, or it used to; her dad, my late grandfather, was supposedly a redhead, though really more of a dark auburn I think.)

But yeah, what you saw then (as of a week or so before the show) was... enhanced.

I was thinking about that as I wrote this entry, actually.

Well, I only waited until 2 weeks before Arisia, but then I always did want to get ahead! ;^)

As I've just realized, I don't think I've seen you in the past 2 weeks. So, if you look for me, don't look for a blonde. You won't be the only new redhead on the scene, chicky.

You have, though! I saw you the night after you did it (albeit in the dim-light at India Palace). Go us! :-)

I had to read that statement twice before it registered. Thanks for the warning, I might have walked right past you. *grin*

You are undoubtedly a fabulous redhead, of course.

It brings to mind the year when people asked me at Arisia "So what's new?" the answer was, "Well, since Christmas, I dumped my boyfriend of two years, quit my job, and got all my hair chopped off. You?"

Before Arisia is a very fine time for an update.

Hey, I dyed mine for similar reasons -- I really hated turning 40 (still do) and had to do something frivolous. And now I've decided I like it and will keep doing it for as long as it seems worth the trouble...

It's almost washed out since last time (early Nov.) and all this cold weather just hasn't inspired me to sit around the house with my wet hair in a baggie. Hi ho the glamorous life. I shan't be at Arisia, so maybe I'll do it this weekend.

Doing something goofy and frivolous is good mojo indeed. And I, too, always thought you had auburn hair... you DO have the coloring for it.

Enjoy it... sounds great!

*Gasp* You mean you color your hair?

I never knew. I always thought that your hair was somewhat reddish.

However, redheads don't always carry through the family line. Compare [livejournal.com profile] flinx and me. Our parents are both red heads. Our grandmothers were both redheads. We have red highlights. However, [livejournal.com profile] flinx is blond, and I'm brown (brunette is not a polite term when applied to men.) Now that [livejournal.com profile] flinx is thinning, and I'm turning white rapidly (yes, a lot of white hairs at age 30,) it's harder to spot the red tints.

If I stay true to the matrilineal heritage, I should be fully white by 35. Mom was white at 20, my aunt was white before 30, and my matrilineal grandmother was white before 30 as well.

Sounds like fun. And now we can pull you into the unstable redhead molecule.

And well, I can relate to the mojo thing, having been there on occasion myself. *hugs*

The red looks great. Very in tune with your complexion. Have I mentioned I have a penchant for redheads? :-)
