Weird... I get the friends/communities/syndication split, but not the mutual-friends and such...

(though I suppose this might be because I tend not to have random people friending me for long... Either I realize it's someone I know and I friend them back, or they get bored with my public posts and un-friend me...)

I don't get the split either. I had a brilliant theory, based on extrapolation from one data point: it's a paid user/free user difference. Unfortunately for my theory, further investigation shows that both coraline and zenala are paid users. Drat, another brilliant theory into the dustbin.

I was thinking it might be that there needs to be significant enough mass to be worth separating. Something like 10 or more that are mutual for them to bother... but I've done no investigating to see if my theory is correct.

funny -- I'd noticed the change, but since all of my friends are people I hadn't realized it was a categorization (as opposed to just a pointless icon). Thanks for clearing that up.
