Might any of you strapping SCAdian babes out there have (or know another who has) garb to lend, of a style that would be appropriate for a 5'10" Norman queen in, say, 1183? It'll get to appear on stage for two performances, July 30 and 31. But if that isn't glory enough, other bribes can be arranged.

Fondly,
Eleanor of Aquitaine

I've got an ivory and gold dress that I think would be perfect. You shuld come over and take a look. We'll be home most of the weekend as of 1pm Saturday. I won't be in tonight or tomorrow night.

Wonderful! I'd love to see it... but do you think I could actually borrow it for a couple of days, then, to run it past the director and/or costumer?

Not a problem as it just sits in my closet in the dry cleaning bag. I just want pics and credit for construction.

Just cuz I'm a nut like this (and a bit of an Angevin Empire fanboy)...

The Norman, French, English, and even Angevin style of dress (while not always as lackluster as Henry's) was tame and bland compared to the luxurious finery of Aquitaine... and Eleanor was a clothes horse if ever there was one.
The records of the expenses for her clothing are very detailed and show purchases of very rich materials for her dress even throughout her captivity. Her rich clothing was of constant note by her contemporary chroniclers, most of who were religiously inclined and found her "displays" immodest and unbecoming.
She only seems to have tamed her fashion taste when she "retired" to Fontevreau, perhaps feeling it was appropriate to her age... that, or the company of the nuns.

I have a blue-green velveteen dress with black and white trim somewhere. Not as rich as white and gold, perhaps, but it might work. (It's probably pretty big around for you, though.) Let me know if you want to look at it.

I would definitely like to look at it. I don't think big-around is a problem, as they're currently talking belted looks. And [livejournal.com profile] jencallisto may still need something too, so, the more options the better. Let me get back to you about logistics of borrowing :-) Thanks!
