Weekend in nanoreview: shul, impromptu dinner, party flyby, not enough sleep, shul, rehearsal, T@F again, dinner date, extra-swell party, almost enough sleep, shul, rehearsal, rehearsal, impromptu semi-party, not enough sleep, but well worth it.

Brandeis folks: [livejournal.com profile] mattblum is here! Arisia folks: [livejournal.com profile] c1 is here! (Would it be passive-aggressive to add the latter to the filter of... yeah, yeah it would. Never mind.)

Special fun bonus Cambridge goings-on in the next two weeks, perhaps to make it up to us for the pain of the DNC: http://www.cambridgema.gov/dnc/

Date with [livejournal.com profile] xiphias on Tuesday. Date with KB on Wednesday. I shall attempt to make a date with someone plans with some-many to see Much Ado perhaps Saturday Sunday night. (Er, and do all my freelance/volunteer layout projects sometime between now and then.) Life is good.

Tickets for Chicago/IN have been booked: Aug 7-12, yay. Also, yay for more button orders!

Lion: We open a week from Friday, and close a week from Saturday. (Fortunately, [livejournal.com profile] hauntmeister will be videographing, for the benefit of all of you who have to miss it.) Important notes: Curtain is at 6:30pm for both shows. There will be no advance ticket reservations; at the door only. $8; it's here (the place will make a lovely Chinon, I must say). Andrea says it's a large enough space that we need not worry about selling out. Still, come by 6 to get your tix. Also, have begun plotting a party for after the Saturday show; you may all expect to be invited, but watch this space for details. ;-)

Full dress run tonight, in costume. It seems masochistic to say this, but I find at the end of a full run-through that I then want to run the whole thing immediately again so as to correct what went suboptimally on the first pass. And so we will. But not tonight.

But first, off to bleed for jweiss ARCTAN. :-)

the link from "place" sends me to http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/doc/images/rloadblock.jpg (their "too many people tried to download this" image).
i assume yours is cached?

maybe it's that *I* opened the "here" site first, caching the "place" image, so it loaded okay for me after that even by itself?

at the end of a full run-through that I then want to run the whole thing immediately again...

Yeah. Me too. But I do not have the energy to run that show at full intensity twice in a row!

Wow, the Lion show is early! I would like to come for the Saturday show; it would be nice if one or both of my hostesses also would like to come, though I don't know how the non-advance-ticket thing would work with Shabbat and all.

I am hopeful that we will come up with a system for working around Shabbat, even though our director isn't eager to cope with advance ticket sales. :-/

I do hope your hostess/es will come!

I suspect if someone volunteered to deal for her, she'd have no objection. (No, I am NOT suggesting you should volunteer, chanaleh! But maybe someone else would...)

what would dealing involve? do you need a volunteer?

Date: Tuesday, July 20th, 2004 04:05 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chanaleh.livejournal.com
From my POV, dealing could be twofold: (1) recording requests, and (2) accepting advance *payments*. The latter depends on the former, and is not something most amateur productions I know have dealt with, but it would improve matters considerably for the Shabbat-constrained, which is a more pressing issue to me (or, rather, mine) personally.

I'd actually be happy to serve as an aggregator for PayPal payments, if we had a ticket manager coordinating the list of reservations...

Apparently I was wrong; she does not want advance ticket sales.

Perhaps the way to proceed is to simply find someone who doesn't mind showing up early and buying tickets, give them money, and say "Buy me N tickets" to be handed to you when you arrive?

Admittedly I'm not certain I fully understand the constraint.

Date: Tuesday, July 20th, 2004 05:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] chanaleh.livejournal.com
The constraint for Shabbat is simple: people who observe it can't carry or spend money (or write or do a bunch of other things). Nor can they ask someone Jewish to do those things for them. Nor, strictly speaking, are they allowed to directly ask a non-Jew to do those things for their benefit, on Shabbat -- though it can be arranged in advance and that's okay.

If I make it known to my Shabbat-observant friends that I will collect money from them in advance and arrange their tickets in advance, in such a way that it results in no Shabbat-breaking by Jews (including me or, say, you) in the event, then that would be okay, religiously speaking. Hence, even if it's not what Andrea wants to do, I may end up brokering at least some of that.

By contrast, coming to the Friday night show will actually be *easier* for some people, since it starts way before Shabbat. But it will end after Shabbat starts, and that could put just as much of a damper on it for other people (who live farther away), if they won't drive or take the T, and/or have to have preparations made for dinner or whatever. Oy vey.

I'd be happy to offer Shabbat dinner after (though it's 2 miles away, so perhaps some people wouldn't be up for the walk, if they're walking).

Actually, I might have managed to talk Yonah into coming, in which case he would probably be very appreciative of such an invitation :-)

I must ask: what, in your lexicon, is T@F? I'm sure you can guess what it is in mine....

Geez, maybe we should put together a rudimentary web page....

Ex'lent! I never knew there was anything going on over there. College Ave is turning into the Tremont Street of Somerville. Gotta love that!

College Ave is turning into the Tremont Street of Somerville.

You can't imagine how many minutes it took me to interpret that sentence correctly. "Because of all the churches? Uh, because of Havurat Shalom? Uh..." You have to bear in mind that the first thing Tremont Street signifies to me is not "Theatre District". ;-)

Yeah, I don't think this particular church has a regular theatre program in place, but it is an interesting phenomenon still!
