PHYLLIS: But I'd rather have half a mortal I do love, than half a dozen I don't!
STREPHON: Oh, I think not -- go to your half-dozen.
PHYLLIS: It's only two! and I hate 'em! Please forgive me!

Life is never boring when it's imitating Iolanthe. (Perhaps I shall put on some glitter and explore my fairy nature. Just in time for auditions next week.)

[livejournal.com profile] ablock: So now you are going to go to Worldcon and not hook up with anyone?
[livejournal.com profile] chanaleh: That's pretty much my plan, yes.
[livejournal.com profile] ablock: Riiight.
[livejournal.com profile] chanaleh: I am capable of restraining myself, you know.
[livejournal.com profile] ablock: I'm just saying the timing is... ironic.

The bit that's actually ironic, though, is that [now that I have actually met someone new who seems worth serious interest, and decided that I would like to pursue this avenue if possible,] technically this is perhaps the least "attached" I have been anytime in the last, oh, five (six?) years. (Except for last September, but anyone who was there will note that I was still pretty entangled even at that point.)

I am practicing detachment. I am taking things slowly. [Insert notes to self on time dilation phenomena here.]

Which is good for me on its own merits; otherwise I don't think I could face this at all. But I am.

I am coping by taking long walks: to work, from work, rambling around Central Square late at night.

As of this morning, I have lost five pounds.
(Of course, it's also hayfever season, which kills my appetite anyway.)

Still, I think it's going to be a good weekend. And a good con. Neil Gaiman is MC'ing the Hugos Saturday night!
Also, MuffinButtons! Look for me at-con!

good for you for taking things slowly. so far, so good, for me. . . .wheee!!!

quote from Brigadoon:

1:
What do ye do while ye're waiting around
For a lad to come your way?

2:
Well, when no one is lookin'
Ye kneel on the ground
And ye pray and pray and pray

1:
But when lassies sit an' have no men
Oh how long becomes the night

2:
But I fear the night is longer
When the lad's not right.

Yes, but the type? Black-on-black, while interesting on t-shirts, will fail with this. :-)

I can be usefully irritating about lots of things. Maybe my button should just say "fear me" and leave it at that. ;)

Yeah, I gotta order a button too, eventually. too many ideas, all of them lame. I'll probably just settle for the eternally-popular "have a gneiss day" in either yellow on black or black on yellow.

I should really get a "puzzle geek" button. Or a "word-wrangler" one.

Or "editor," but that doesn't really sum it up. :)

Or "battleaxe contralto." ('cept that I'm not being much of a battleaxe these days.)

I've always wanted to give my dad the statistics professor one that says "standard deviant."

I really should go to w-con; i mean, i'm not going to dragon-con this year, have nothing planned (other than trying to register more voters), and even have friends going...
It's close - 3 hrs, and poof! Con; well maybe it's worth reconsidering.

fyi - ran into your post over on wj; work is going to have me out in boston more over the next few months so i'm expanding the circle :)
