Update: I *swear* I'm feeling better!
Friday, September 24th, 2004 09:59 amFeeling better after 7.75 hours of sleep. Temp at 99 this morning. I'm at work now, and expect to leave around 4:15pm to head up to Swampscott for Kol Nidrei.
To all my surrogate Jewish mothers: thank you, and I promise not to do a full fast if the fever comes back. :-) At the very least I'll take fluids; I don't generally have a problem with that.
Back to the concrescual approximation!

Date: Friday, September 24th, 2004 03:52 pm (UTC)Not to scare you or anything... :-)
but I was running around with a temp of around 99 for about 2 weeks - wasn't feeling great - but not horrible either... ended up almost passing out at work - saw my dr.. asked about mono (cuz someone else in the office had just been diagnosed with it) she said - no way -you dont have mono symptoms - made her give me a blood test - and guess what?! mono with liver complications - and I really didn't feel that bad...
I guess what I'm trying to say is... perhaps see your dr in a few days if you still are running a fever and make them give you a blood test- I was running around with mono for several weeks (even trying to exercize unsuccessfully).
sorry - I guess I'm being a Jewish mother too :-)

Date: Sunday, September 26th, 2004 03:56 am (UTC)Ways to kick it (cause i missed the previous call for jewish mothers):
Sudafed, in the green box.
LOTS of water, all the time.
Take those zinc+echinacea throat drops often, especially right at the beginning
If you have the fever (and it sounds like you do/did) stay warm. take a day off and sleep straight through wrapped up as warm as you can. Some tylenol/advil/asprin after you've sweat it a bit won't hurt either.
Honey. Eat spoonfulls of the stuff. While it does make the throat feel better, its just tasty in general.
As soon as you feel well enough, go to kung fu.
Ok, so maybe the last one is more of a personal choice, but i always feel a lot better after a bit of cardiovascular exercise. It gets the blood flowing, raises your body temperature (which is what your body is trying to do on its own to fight the bug), improves breathing, and gives you more of a chance to sweat out toxins (the natural kind).
just my two cents. a few years ago i was on a run, got this thing 5 times in a row and it stayed for 3 weeks (it was a 3 on, 2 off fall/winter/spring). Been trying hard ever since to find the best way to stop it fast and keep it from returning.
(lshana tova! Hope your breakfast was yummy!)
