bits and pieces
Thursday, October 28th, 2004 03:12 pmYeah, okay: Go Sox. Note that this experience is still surreal even for those of us who follow no baseball.
I have been given two free tickets for 7:30pm tonight to see Phylicia Rashad in August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean at the Huntington. And my friend Mike who was supposed to come with me just e-mailed to cancel. Anyone (who doesn't have rehearsal or set build or too much homework) want to join me if my second taker declines? All set. Yay.
Again with the language geeking in this book I'm now working on, here's my new word for today: lixiviation. Which means "separation of a mixture by dissolving out one component" (e.g., salt from sand) -- but by God, it OUGHT to mean "converting an expression to Roman numerals." ;-)
Any of you un[der]employed but computer-smart folks out there potentially interested in a temp position helping me archive book files to our server off 5 large packing boxes full of CDs? My boss and I were kicking the idea around this morning. No idea what wage would be offered (I'll probably have to write up the proposal), but it would probably be a couple weeks' work.
I had a parody brainstorm at minyan on Tuesday morning: "FFB" [Frum From Birth] to the tune of "FFV" from 1776. Paging the Bursteins...! I haven't managed to come up with much yet beyond "For I am F-F-B, I ain't no B"T..."
Yesterday I successfully replaced my ballet slippers at Teddy Shoes (which,
navrins, for the record also has a fair selection of men's hats). Today I bought some Cafe du Monde and some Russian Caravan tea (which I am now drinking) at Cardullo's. Go me!
Today I also ordered our group tickets for the Boston Jewish Film Festival, to see Paper Snow at the Coolidge on Sunday 11/7 (7pm, so I can put in most of a day at put-in first). Next trick: organizing small-group (home-invite across 8 homes) Shabbat dinner logistics for Friday 11/5... *waves at
