Yes, I know this meme-engine is just pulling from my interest list, but it's so darn amusing to look at.

In other news, my mother is all over the idea that I should buy a condo. Also, I have now beaten her (narrowly to widely) five out of five Scrabble games this trip.

Plus I've made approximately 24 pairs of earrings for the synagogue Art Show next Sunday. And saw my other relatives and got to play with my 6.5-year-old niece for two days straight.

It's been a good visit.
One more day in CA. I should try to get EST-shifted again before then.

I'm out here a whole 'nother week.
Still, I have enough 10am-in-Boston meetings that I'll
need to call into that I should really morning-shift.

Heck, if you're gonna buy a condo, just buy a house. Then you don't have to pay a monthly condo fee. :)

There's a very good reason to buy a condo and not a house in greater Boston. Price. House prices (especially in the "immediate" Boston area) are pretty much insane. Condos have a lower entry cost (for now).

Houses can also be harder to find. We were lucky enough to run into one just above our price range when we were looking, so we scraped by and bought it. (That was in 1995-1996, too...it'd be much harder now.)

But you do need to do your own landscaping, snow removal, and other dealing-with-outside-of-house things, and pay for most if not all of the things that your monthly condo fee pays for, so I think it mostly comes out a wash.

Where I live it's not a wash because condos don't appreciate like houses do. You have a harder time selling a condo and you make less money on it. If it's between buying something and buying nothing, of course, a condo is fine. Being able to paint the walls any color you want is worth it. :)

...or in some cases, remove the walls. (Yes, I removed a wall in my condo. It was great.)

Condos definitely do appreciate. I can't compare their appreciation to that of houses, but they do appreciate, especially if you do some inexpensive improvements.

Or a two-family where you can rent half of it
to help pay your mortgage...

Music is red,
Unicyclists are green,
This is the silliest
Meme that I've seen.

(Today, anyway. So far.)
