I'm still here! Have been buried in work and other volunteer commitments. But still here.

Put [livejournal.com profile] justom (with about 80lbs of luggage) on the BoltBus today, marking his "official" move to NYC full-time. More on the emotional ramifications of that later, but for tonight -- does anyone want to come by and help me unload the remainder of his worldly goods from my car into my house? I'll offer you a beer afterwards, or tea or whatever.

Also, Planet Fitness is running a special through tomorrow: $99 for a prepaid 12-month membership. There's one in the Porter Sq. Galleria (downstairs from Pier 1 Imports), which is 0.8 miles from my house and dovetails nicely with my plan for increasing my physical activity in the coming year. I figure for that price, what the hell, I can try it out for a couple months. Anyone have any experience with them that says otherwise? Conversely, anyone already belong there and want me to put you down as my referral... or wanna join too and be my workout buddy? I thought I might go by there at some point tonight (they're open until 11pm) and check it out.

ETA: Did it! Their normal rate is only $10/mo anyway (so we figured this was like getting 2 months free), BUT you normally pay a $60 signup fee up front, so it's actually like getting 8 months free. Let's hope this is motivating.

September calendaring coming tomorrow.

It has been just fine for my needs. No hot tub but good quality equipment and close enough that I make it on a regular basis. Plus ... it fits my budget (though I'd love to go to Healthworks). If you end up joining, I'd happily workout with you.

I belong to one down here and it definitely covers all the basics for a low price. The crowd is fairly mellow for a gym and the trainer I met with was also low-key. So I like them, though I end up not going all that often.

You know -- it wasn't, when it was the 18th, then it *was*, when it was the 5th. When you moved it again to the 25th, I'd already bought bus tickets to be in NYC for that weekend. I'm sorry, honey. I will have to come over again some other time.

That will be totally awesome. I'll send you an invite after the Jewish holidays.

Thanks for the heads-up...

I was just thinking today that I want to rejoin a gym, but was balking at the price (or lack of price list on websites) so I think I just might go do that tomorrow...

Didn't read this til now. Hope you got some help. I know I have sucked at keeping up with lj--I did not know he was moving. Is it work? Will you follow him? I'm sorry, Honey.

I had a PF membership for a year with my Dad. To agree with everyone else, it was basic, filled my needs and was pretty cheap. It was a nice, relaxed environment. I did, however, notice they didn't have a lot of free weights apart from hand dumbells and no balls, no jump ropes, not too many classes. I belonged in Woburn though, which may be different.

Yeah, I am curious about available classes. But in my previous gym-going experiences I've never attended a class in my life, so that part's not make-or-break, just of potential interest.

I liked the occasional class as a way to break up the routine but it was not mission critical for me. It was also a fun way to try out a new activity or add a new exercise. I took yoga, step (omg it was like the 80s all over), Zumba dance (lots of fun, great cardio) and a few classes on random stuff. It didn't always work if my schedule was erratic.
