Quick notes:
* [livejournal.com profile] zigguratlabs has issued a Call for Research for their 2011 exhibition!
* Prose in Arlington is closing!
* Honorable Menschen is having a Chanukah concert next Sunday 12/5 (which you should all come to! 4pm at [livejournal.com profile] tremontstshul)

Spent Thanksgiving in CT with [livejournal.com profile] justom's family, including adorable twin nieces now a year and four months. Drove a lot. Ate a lot. Slept a lot. What more can you ask for, really? Oh, also finally watched Avatar, which means I need to go back and review exactly what all the charges of deep racism were about.

Yesterday I invented a new brunch cocktail variation on the Greyhound:
* 1/4 C (2 oz) gin
* 1 C (8 oz) ruby red grapefruit juice
* 1/2 T (1/4 oz) Domaine de Canton
* Stir and enjoy.
I wish to call this the French Greyhound, though it appears this name has been used elsewhere.

Other things I did yesterday )

And now, off for another day of slogging through the diamond mines. (Hence mood setting.)

I'm still here! Have been buried in work and other volunteer commitments. But still here.

Put [livejournal.com profile] justom (with about 80lbs of luggage) on the BoltBus today, marking his "official" move to NYC full-time. More on the emotional ramifications of that later, but for tonight -- does anyone want to come by and help me unload the remainder of his worldly goods from my car into my house? I'll offer you a beer afterwards, or tea or whatever.

Also, Planet Fitness is running a special through tomorrow: $99 for a prepaid 12-month membership. There's one in the Porter Sq. Galleria (downstairs from Pier 1 Imports), which is 0.8 miles from my house and dovetails nicely with my plan for increasing my physical activity in the coming year. I figure for that price, what the hell, I can try it out for a couple months. Anyone have any experience with them that says otherwise? Conversely, anyone already belong there and want me to put you down as my referral... or wanna join too and be my workout buddy? I thought I might go by there at some point tonight (they're open until 11pm) and check it out.

ETA: Did it! Their normal rate is only $10/mo anyway (so we figured this was like getting 2 months free), BUT you normally pay a $60 signup fee up front, so it's actually like getting 8 months free. Let's hope this is motivating.

September calendaring coming tomorrow.

I believe I mentioned that my exercise habits had been slowly improving before Gondoliers, but that as of about tech week for that (read: late April), and then with segueing immediately into rehearsal-every-weeknight mode for Margaret Ghost, I kind of fell off the wagon.

Most of my walks had been in my regular (Dansko) street shoes, especially in the wintertime -- they're reasonably weather-resistant, supportive, and all that. But they're not really what you want for breaking into a jog, and I'd been trying to start alternating running with walking, Couch-to-5k style -- in bursts of about 4 blocks.

So, I invested in the proper tool(s)... )

I haven't had a lot of time so far to invest in ramping up my walking program. However, when I do get out, the shoes actually do seem to help with the running segments: Last night I managed to jog almost the entire way from Powderhouse Circle to Teele Square in one go. I don't know how many minutes that was, but it was more than I remember doing before. (And that was even, I must admit, on a belly full of Toscanini's. :-)
ETA: Having done it again, I recalled that it was actually from Powderhouse Circle to Packard St. (along Broadway) -- which GoogleMaps estimates at .4 miles, and which clocked in, the second time, as a whopping stretch of... 4 minutes. Um, woohoo?
