chanaleh: Mama with Aria, age 18 months (aria-18mos)
I would have liked to make this two separate entries, but don't really have time to split them out, so here it is all intermingled, gentle readers.

Obviously the biggest thing that happened in Aria's life this month was losing her Grandma Elsie on April 2, which sadly she won't even remember. But the second biggest thing was her first plane trip, to California to visit her other grandma, April 22-28. Her 21-month birthday was Grandma Bobbie's 74th birthday, April 26.

travel notes )

While we were in CA, we measured her at 33" and 26 pounds. (Edited to add: Checking back entries suggests that this is the same height the pediatrician measured at 18 months, which seems unlikely, with a 1lb weight gain, which is plausible. Next official measurements aren't until her 2yr visit in July.)

Happy new year!

I've never bothered with this meme, but since this is almost certainly the longest list I will ever have for a single year, and it makes for a nice year-in-review, I'll try it. ;-)

Speaking of travel, I should point out (since people have been asking me) that we're not planning on coming to Arisia this year. I'll miss you all, but it's just not in the cards -- no time off yet from the new job, still catching up on finances, and so on. On the plus side, though, there will still be Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat services at Arisia thanks to intrepid hosts [livejournal.com profile] mbarr and [livejournal.com profile] crewgrrl. (But no MuffinButtons. If you need some, place your orders now for pre-con delivery!)

chanaleh: Snoopy and Woodstock, celebrating (birthday)
Backdated to May 6 for archival purposes, even though it took me until June 10 to actually post.

Note: All the accompanying pictures are here, on Flickr, if you want to scroll along; click through to the individual images if you want to read the captions and scroll through one at a time. They're occasionally a little out of sequence, because Mom's camera and mine were not synced up on the timestamps! I've tried to re-sort them manually, but it's not perfect. Hers are the ones with the timestamps in the corners. Anyway, you'll figure it out.

Mikado is officially over. It's been a total blast to work on. Plus, I made a pro blog post over the weekend about my program design work (which, if I may say so, was very well received) for this production: Designs for the Blue Hill Troupe’s 2013 Mikado

[livejournal.com profile] justom's class is having its LA Showcase performances today, starting in just a few hours (2pm PDT)! Wish them broken legs, or whatever non-fate-tempting expressions of luck you prefer.

And speaking of California: holy crap, my trip with my mom is just 3 days away. I'm packing tonight. Assuming I ever get out of the office tonight.

*hurriedly buckles back down*

Back from 6(ish) days in California with [livejournal.com profile] justom. Had a lovely time, ate lots of lovely food, saw lots of lovely people. Will try to post my pictures tonight, and maybe even some sketchy trip notes.

Standard disclaimer: My pants are bankrupt, which implies "point me at anything crucial I missed". :-)

Catching up on email in the meantime -- sorry if I've been remiss in responding to you, feel free to re-ping me. ([livejournal.com profile] c1, I know you're on a deadline and I haven't forgotten you!)

Long weekend in Lodi

We're in California at my mom's, where we've been since Friday afternoon (after leaving the house at 4:45am to catch our 6am flight).

My brother and my niece (the birthday girl) came up from Mountain View Saturday evening and we had family birthday dinner with them and my aunt & uncle, and then the four of us "kids" went out to see Star Trek Babies, which I enjoyed greatly.

Yesterday, as the temperatures loomed near 105, we mostly hung out at my aunt & uncle's pool all afternoon, allowing me to get in most of my recommended daily dose of sunshine *happy sigh* without actually coming away burnt. And we played two more games of Scrabble and finally tried out the whirlpool tub in the guest bathroom (scrunched, but still pleasant), and went to bed early.

I'm currently sitting out in the back garden ("yard" doesn't seem to do justice to this lush little square) by my stepfather's koi pond, after we all went out for breakfast this morning.

Although I know I missed a lot of cool stuff in Boston this weekend, and it will be good to be back tomorrow... right now, life is good.

Sunday night: was the last to leave the cast party (or at least W20), shortly after 1am. (Fortunately I haven't yet had time to be sad about the production being over, but that topic can wait until it hits.)

Having chosen to put off packing until the morning, was in bed by 2:30am, but lay awake until 3:15am *thinking* about packing, at which point declared futility, got up and packed. Returned to bed at 4am and slept until nearly 8:30am. Departed home at 10:15am, made it to Logan by 11 for 12:05pm flight, no problems (except for a tense two minutes while the TSA contemplated my jewelry pliers... but let me retain them, with a warning. I honestly didn't know "tools" per se were on the forbidden list). Rest of voyage pleasantly uneventful, if not technically restful.

Spent this evening (after we got dinner on the way home from the airport) cutting out paper turkeys to make placecard holders. Yes, my stepfather has been bitten by Martha Stewart... werewolf-style, I fear. :-)

Overall, it should be a fun week.
Bed now.
