I'm building a web page for the fundraising auction (real version to go up Monday) at the school benefit dinner next month, and I'm scavenging graphics from all over the place. So I was here, trying to work around the stupid Flash rollover to get the actual source image, since it wouldn't let me just "View Image". And I opened the page source code to see if I could dig out the location of the graphic itself, as sometimes works. I didn't find it -- resorted to doing a screen capture -- but as I was scrolling through the code, I found this in the comments:

// this shouldn't be implemented as a THROW thingy.
// but the FF3 at least acted funny. It took some considerable long time
// for the FF3 to recover from the catch. Thus return it wih a flag - for now...

Seeing that very human remark amid all the scripty business just made me feel warm and fuzzy all over. You're probably not actually someone I know, little code monkey, but you might as well be.

I love geeks so much.

BTW, it's been a bang-up week or two for me personally at work, in the meantime, between exciting new website development and getting the aforementioned event invitations out. Zoom zoom zoom!

A March calendaring entry is in the works, hopefully tomorrow before we leave for skiing. (I could practically do April at the same time, considering it's largely set in stone before February is even over... but I think I'll hold out.)

So, this weekend Tiger Boy and I went on a ski trip to Sunday River (in Maine) with [livejournal.com profile] jon_libby and assorted friends. It was an awesome weekend, despite culminating in what was perhaps the least urgent Urgent Care visit ever. )

The upshot is, now that I'm apparently picking up skill and confidence and therefore speed, I hereby promise to get a ski helmet. :-) Also, perhaps this would be a good week to bentsch Gomel.

Not exactly a weekend update, more of a bookend update. Here goes:

Last Friday I worked a full day with a cold that, after several days as an intermittent chest cough, had moved up into my head and ears. Bleah. It was much better by the end of Saturday, however (fortunately).

Saturday night we went to see the Concord Players' The Lion In Winter, with special bonus [livejournal.com profile] theatreatfirst dinner outing beforehand because [livejournal.com profile] ironpoet was playing Philip. I enjoyed the production, and the casting was pretty good overall, but I missed [livejournal.com profile] navrins. Kibitzing with [livejournal.com profile] desireearmfeldt was fun though.

Sunday I drove with David S down to Westchester County to be in a concert production of Iolanthe -- at Temple Israel Center in White Plains, organized by Rabbi Robbie Harris of Shake, Rabbis & Roll (oh yeah, and also of High Holidays at [livejournal.com profile] tremontstshul in recent years). 6 hours of driving, 5 hours of rehearsal, 2 hours of performance (plus lunch and dinner). They do a different show every year, and David's been trying for years to get me to come down for it, but since conflicts always seem to arise, this is the first time I've actually been able. I didn't fully appreciate until performance time that the cast comprised 2 rabbis, about 10 cantors or cantorial students, David, and me (!). And I was only scheduled to sing in the fairy chorus (dayenu), but ended up understudying Phyllis for the Act 1 finale (!!) ... when I wasn't filling in the first-tenor line from offstage during the men's sections. :-) I have now had enough pushing the top and bottom of my range to content me for the next few weeks at least. However, I earned particular praise from the musical director/accompanist, Linda Hall, a terrific woman who in her day job is a rehearsal pianist for the Metropolitan Opera (!!!), so that was heartwarming.

Monday: work and shul board meeting. Tuesday: skiing daytrip to Waterville Valley with Tiger Boy, [livejournal.com profile] towk and [livejournal.com profile] lyriendel; they had a total of about 3 green trails, but I was content to play around/practice on them all day, and had a good time.

Tonight: bridesmaid dress shopping with [livejournal.com profile] gilana and [livejournal.com profile] muchabstracted! Tomorrow night, Valentine's Day. :-D

Some of you know or have heard, but -- on Saturday night we went skiing at Nashoba Valley, and ten minutes before closing, I fell coming around a curve and torqued my right knee. Owie.

No searing pain, but it definitely felt damaged. We took off our skis and TB got me to limp down the rest of the trail (all of about 50 yards) and back to the lodge. The medic pronounced my range of motion normal, and said that if a couple days of ice and Advil did not produce noticeable improvement, I should certainly go have it looked at. So I sat on my couch most of Sunday and, among other things, got through a chunk of Kavalier & Clay (first time I'm reading it, and, I suspect, not the last).

Monday still kinda sucked (especially getting in and out of the car; driving actually felt mostly okay, weight-bearing feels perfectly fine, but bending it in certain directions was just Not Happening). Fortunately, though, today the improvement is noticeable. It's quite stiff, but not nearly as sore.

I may still go have it looked at in a day or two, just to make sure I get the proper therapeutic instructions. (Especially as we made plans to go to Killington Feb. 24-25. Bah!)

Leaving for Vermont today after all. In, like, 15 minutes. :-}
Back lateish Monday.

Lots of leg-breaking to the Mikado folks (whom I should be able to catch next weekend) and Cabaret Night folks (whom I'm sorry to miss, alas). I hear it's gone swell so far.

Home from Vermont!

I had an awesome time. And, skiing-wise, I am ([livejournal.com profile] pandaulf will be glad to know) no longer falling down every 10 feet. :-) I had a Level 1 lesson ("Here's how you hold the poles...") on Friday afternoon and a Level 2 lesson Saturday afternoon. This morning, the 3.5 hours I was out (before the 3pm return bus), I spent practicing on my own, solidifying my skills thus far. And, in fact, I didn't fall once today, even getting off the lifts 7 or 8 times. It felt good.

Oh, and the combo of Fluorescent Pink Ski Pants and Fluorescent Orange Scarf was actually a huge hit. Pix to come, maybe soon.

Sidebar: There are basically three mountains at Smuggler's Notch. The one I spent all my time on (that is, the smallest of them)? Morse Mountain. The only (inadequate) response that comes to mind is "It figures". I looked for a t-shirt for [livejournal.com profile] mrmorse, but they didn't seem to have any like that.

Bed now.
