Here's a new twist on the "what I worked on today" entries you've been seeing from me:

I've finished the complete redesign of the website for Honorable Menschen (that's [livejournal.com profile] mangosteen's, [livejournal.com profile] ladypsyche's, and my a cappella group, for those just tuning in). It looks cool! Go see! Also, you can now subscribe to the mailing list if you want to get notifications about concerts and such -- the next, BTW, will be a free Sunday-afternoon affair on August 12, so save the date.

Besides this, over the past couple days, I also: added a few (Daniel, Esther, Michael, and Miriam) to the Hebrew Names page, made progress on a new book cover commission, and helped Tiger Boy make props for the talk he's giving at 5:15pm today.

Oh, and I got to see Order of the Phoenix last night, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] skreeky by way of [livejournal.com profile] ablock. :-D

([livejournal.com profile] ladypsyche and I got to see a demonstration of the Scooba the other night. Which led to a discussion of names for potential future iRobot products. To clean your tub: the Tooba! To do your dishes: the... Doomba?) more silliness along these lines )

Hey, happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] flinx!
Hey, congratulations on your defense, [livejournal.com profile] tahnan!

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] muchabstracted, did you happen to see the Sunday Globe Magazine a week ago? There was a column in it that we thought you might find amusing. (I've just been lame about posting since then.)

Upcoming theatrical events performances not to be missed:

(1) SchoolHouse Rock Live! -- The Musical

http://www.regenttheatre.com/events/school.htm

(2) [livejournal.com profile] theatreatfirst's Merry Wives of Windsor, of course, opens this Friday night. (HINT: this is the one that I am in!)

(3) Also this Friday: the Harvard Pops Orchestra's PIRATE concert!

(4) The One Man Star Wars Trilogy (which some of you may remember seeing performed at the Worldcon Masquerade Halftime last August) is at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, tonight through Sunday.

Geez, anyone would think I never do anything but theatre. ;-) I'm laying out books these days, too, I swear.

Thank you all for your birthday wishes. Weirdly, this has been rather anticlimactic as birthdays go; between having the party several days early, and having the actual birthday immediately follow two days of Rosh Hashanah*, and having Menschen rehearsal tonight preclude any birthday outing in the usual mode... well, it's been low-key. (Maybe this is an argument for that 33-1/3 b'day party next February 6.) However, my new bosses got me a lovely cake, and I got to see my sweetheart, and tomorrow I'm getting taken out for birthday dinner, and... life is good.

*Rosh Hashanah went fine. The singing gig, y'know. And nice dinners with good friends.

Since I've been posting so little of late, I will succumb to a meme:
Google for "[your name] needs": (EDIT: I'm now sorting these into categories for amusement value.)

From the department of Randomness:
  • Erica Needs No Defense From Me, However...
  • Erica needs to travel to England to recover gold owed her family and restore the family's good name. (Rah!)

From the department of A Little Too Poignant For Comfort:
  • Erica needs the structure and love of a family.
  • Erica needs to come home (come home...)
  • Erica needs to make some tough choices
  • So keep the prayers coming. Erica needs them.
  • Erica needs all the help and all the heroes she can get.
  • Erica needs a good home willing to commit to her for her future.

From the department of Heh, So I'm Told:
  • Erica needs a girl.
  • Erica needs a big reality check.

  • From the department of You Can Say That Again:
  • Erica needs a story that doesn't involve her screaming or threatening people
  • All Erica needs to do is plug her source reduction or recycling data into the appropriate cells in the excel tool, (actually it's budget data for manufacturing costs, but hey.)
  • Erica needs subject in the subject lines.
  • Erica needs articles. She’d like to have the newsletter out by the next brotherhood meeting.

  • ... Yuh-huh.
What Erica wants on the other hand is an upgrade to her stompy boots, but no luck so far. Even Teddy Shoes and Zappo's have very little to offer. Ah well. Trash must go out, and [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh must to bed.

All right, as silly javascript memes go, this one is just a bit funnier than it ought to be.

My very British name is Amelia Chamberlain.

    Okay, I'm in. :-)

    If you call me... )

You picked a LiveJournal name. It's probably not your real name. What does it mean to you, and why did you pick it?

It's a diminutive of my Hebrew name, Chana-Rivka. I identify fairly strongly with my Hebrew name; as many of you know, or most of you may have noticed, I wear it on a chain around my neck at all times. (Though as [livejournal.com profile] chaiya has pointed out, I don't necessarily respond to it in conversation, so maybe it's not so internalized as all that. Maybe if more people tried, I'd get used to it. :-)

My real name doesn't lend itself to diminution very well, so I've never had a nickname in regular RL use. And the only other regular username/nickname I've ever had was taken when I signed up on LJ -- not that I minded too much.

Picked this meme back up from an old post by [livejournal.com profile] points, 'cause I never did it last time it went around. :-)

    Erica is complex
    Erica is her own hero
    Erica is up to something
Erica Is One Of The Original Bees, Some Even Say She's The Queen Bee!
    Erica is laughing ...
    Erica is The Oldest.
    Erica is blissfully wistful!
    Erica is sexy!
Erica is terrified of her real self.
Erica is from the country of tulips and windmills
Erica is a "great" student. ... Erica is well mannered but also likes to pull pranks on people...

Hmm. :-) On the whole, I'm amused to note that Google seems to know me pretty well after all. There's hardly anything even crying out for funny commentary. Maybe I should go to the end of my 8,690 results.

Hoping to write a real post before the end of the week.

    God help me...

I sent in my Arisia reg today, for me and Matthew. (He specifically asked if he could come along. Aww. :-)

But that's not the part that scares me. It's that, for my badge name -- rather than the straight-up "Erica" I've always had -- I bit the bullet and put "chanaleh@livejournal".

(So what, you ask? It's WAY FRICKIN' GEEKIER to use a badge name that isn't your given name, that's what! I am appalled by what this impulse says about how far I have traveled down this shadowy path. Since this is my sixth or seventh con already, I should just come to terms with it, but it's going to take me a couple extra minutes. :-)

While poking around the LJ entries today of so many other people I know, I checked (on a whim) whether username muffin was available. It isn't, of course. But chanaleh was. Fear that it might disappear prompted me to pony up and join Right Now.

How much use I will end up making of this space, ultimately, remains to be seen. But hey, here I am.
