chanaleh: Muffin the Vampire Baker: "It's him, Muffin! You have to protect him at all costs!" "I'M ON IT!" (i'm on it!)
Since I am vending at [livejournal.com profile] arisia, I can't carry all my cargo on public transit, so [livejournal.com profile] ladymondegreen's household offered me a ride up from NYC. Only, when they got to my doorstep around 9:30 this evening, it turned out there was not in fact room in the laden car for both me AND my stuff.

... Which I'd kind of thought might turn out to be the case, honestly. So I buckled my MuffinButtons, crockpot, and food supplies into the front seat, cheerfully waved cargo and passengers goodbye 'til tomorrow, and headed back upstairs to book BoltBus tickets. I'm now getting an 8am bus out on Friday, so should be at the hotel shortly after 12:30pm.

Which means I have an early morning. Boo! But at least I get a quiet night at home with [livejournal.com profile] justom first. Yay! :-D

(Booked a return bus for Mon evening while I was at it, on general principles, since they're already filling up for the holiday weekend. 5:30pm bus will give me plenty of leisure to finish up in the dealers' room, and get me home around 10pm. And hopefully some of my cargo can still hitch a ride home.)

We'll just have to make up for the missed opportunity by singing show tunes together in a confined space for several hours some other time!

See (many of) you tomorrow!

Reprieve!

Since Manhattan is closing bridges to commercial traffic tomorrow (!), the movers have officially rescheduled us for a week from tomorrow, Sunday 9/4.

This actually works out well in a variety of ways, not least of which is that I can continue to be in this apartment for the coming week instead of finding crash space. (Talked to the incoming tenant, the landlords' granddaughter, who was super gracious and flexible and said "as long as there's room cleared for me to move the stuff in that I need to", which was exactly our plan. The packed boxes are all piled to the rafters in the living room.) Baruch haShem.

Weekend

--- Missing today's Beginning-of-Summer shindig
- Missing Menschen rehearsal tomorrow night
+++ In the car with Tiger Boy, [livejournal.com profile] muchabstracted, and family, driving to the Berkshires
++ Going to (try to) see Garrison Keillor at Tanglewood tonight!

Back Monday early evening. Catch you all then. :-)

Next weekend is the GSC ski trip, so I'm supposed to take off this Friday. Yay!
But in the meantime, I'm going to be working flat-out for 4 days straight trying to get the last 4 chapters of this book done. Boo!
So [livejournal.com profile] ablock loaned me the Pupmobile for today to save me 2 hours' commuting. Yay!
But I woke up and the sky was completely filled with this dense white stuff. Boo!
But having the car meant at least I stayed dry. Yay!
But it took me an hour (twice the normal timeframe) to drive from Cambridge to Wellesley. Boo!
But after crawling several miles up the Pike, I at least managed to circumvent getting on 128 (where even the *on-ramp* was backed up) and cut around to 16 instead. Yay!
And I eventually got here in one piece. Yay!

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] ablock and [livejournal.com profile] kalessin last night, "I'm at the point where I could go BUY a car... IF I had any time to go shopping for one!" Oy vey.

Weekend was good, though. Our '80s dance rocked. Next year, we're getting a lighting budget. *grin*

On with the rundown )

Overall weekend:
Activities: B-
Weather: A
Wardrobe: A-
Company: A+

And now, if not Diesel, at least dinner.

Edit, 10pm: Um, yeah. Have been resting quietly at home for 2+ hours, and the local anesthetic is definitely wearing off. This may explain my general underwhelmedness with the evening. (Yes, I have taken ibuprofen. No, the aching has not yet subsided. Yes, I am tossing around looking for the position in which gravity is least annoying.)

Also, I forgot to go look for a copy of Paladin of Souls today, which I meant to do so that I would have it tonight. Meh.

On the other hand, every single one of you should go read this book. On which note, I'm seriously going to bed now.

**And now I am just waiting for one of you to pipe up and say that you went to college with Lore Sjöberg.

Good: Getting the newsletter done.
Bad: Missing my dinner date because #@&!* Gmail would not send my *$&@^#(*&! attachment of the newsletter PDF, wasting an entire hour to ultimately no avail because the %@&* thing had to be sent by sneakernet anyway after all.

Good: Receiving a late-evening social call in place of the missed dinner date.
Bad: Wanting, always, more than I can have, ever.
Bad: And now it's after 2am and sleep is far from me. So far that I don't even know where it is.

Bad: And I have so much to do tomorrow.
Bad: And the day after that, and the day and the day and the day after that.
Stupid, but true: And the things that I should be looking forward to can't soothe me right now; they all feel hollow, dry as dust. Because right now I am here alone, and even sleep is far from me.

Good: At least (for now) my net connection is working.

Let's see, what else?
Good: Uh, remembered to pick up my T pass today.
Good: And got to Pearl before they closed.
Bad: They were sold out of every size of clip frame... except one obscure one (4" x 10").
Good: But I needed some of those too, actually. So I bought a couple, and framed my 4" x 10" things for the art show when I got home.
Good: [livejournal.com profile] jessruth is coming to visit this weekend!
Good: And tomorrow I'm having dinner with OtherJessica and Amy whom I haven't seen in a coon's age. So maybe I am looking forward to something, after all.

I'm joining Honorable Menschen! Yay!

World is still, for all practical purposes, down. Boo!

But [livejournal.com profile] musicjill just reminded me that I should start using my already-existing e-mail alias(es) so I can set my own forwarding pointers as needed. This includes erica at alumni.brandeis.edu, but also chanaleh at livejournal.com as most of you are likely to use anyway. Yay!

Alas, I'm not feeling so well today. Maybe it's the hay fever, maybe it's more. Boo!

But I remembered to bring an antihistamine that I can go take now. Yay!

Yay! and Boo!

[livejournal.com profile] jessruth visited this weekend! Yay!
But it poured all weekend. Boo!
But Harry Potter 5 came out. Yay!
But it was also Baitcon so a lot of people were out of town. Boo!
But we got taken out to nice dinners -- first Ethiopian and then Korean. Yay!
And we had a highly successful shopping run to Target. Yay!
And played two games of Scrabble, the usual neck-and-neck, winning one each. Yay!
And Jess got to stay an extra night because she's now on vacation. Yay!
But I came down with a cold Sunday afternoon and was mostly useless as company thereafter. Boo!
And in fact I stayed home from work yesterday too, nursing my cough and congestion. Boo!
But since I was languishing on the couch all day anyway, I managed to finish Harry Potter. Yay!
But the nice weather waited until I was stuck inside all day. Boo!
But I'm leaving for California this Friday to visit my mom &c. Yay!
But that means scheduling this week is extra tight. Boo!
And I'm missing a party this weekend that I really wanted to go to. Boo!
But for now, I'm back in the office, and my work is pretty much cut out for me the rest of this short week. Yay!
Addenda:
But I'm still pretty much dragging today. Boo!
But I did go out to the mall at lunchtime and buy a cute new bathing suit. Yay!
